So which one of you yobbos got on the big screen at the Cricket this morning with their PA monogram cap on?

Rugby League is a wonderful game. Rugby is a shit game, played in Australia and England almost exclusively by rich kids, and you barely see the ball.

Having played Union in England, Wales, NZ and Australia, methinks your comment is somewhat malinformed. It's the rich and/or old school who may administer the game, but it's played in every country by working man and well-to-do alike, including England and Australia.

League is only played professionally in 3 countries and it's amazing how many League players are defecting to Union at the moment, but not a whole lot making it, mainly only those who played Union young before they were lured by lucrative Australian League club offers. Even Benji Marshall, a champion League player who grew up with Union tried to return to Union this year but didn't cut the mustard so is back to League in Sydney in 2015.

The Union World Cup next year will be huge.

So...are you a rich kid?

So...are you a rich kid?

I wish. I'm 57, so hardly a kid, and grew up as a labourers son in a remote country town. Left home at 16. All that I have I have, I have earned by myself, but in a IT Management position now so comfortable.

But I must say I have travelled the world off my own savings, and the first thing me and my travelling companions would do, whether in Italy, France, Spain, etc, would be to go to a local rugby club. Instant mates. See life and culture that other travellers wouldn't. Accepted into homes and families, playing for a local side occasionally. Priceless. Union opens doors because it is a game for all, and worldwide (without too many dickheads - a few, granted, but not too many).

Since 1982 an AFL convert, originally Essendon, but following Maggies locally. When Port got in the AFL, the Bombers were waved goodbye.

Hahaha true, its certainly not the posh game in Wales...England, yeah Scotland most def.

Which league players struggled at Union? None of the good ones have, the only issue is the ball is kicked away too much or the service is crap. Burgess will be a fantastic flanker. They have him in centre.

Union to league would struggle these days though.

Burgess is very very good, but he’s a bit of an awkward player to fit into a Union side just at the moment. He’s not mobile, agile or quick enough to be a centre, and he’s not skilled enough for the back row - yet. If he can learn those skills I would suggest a number 6 or 8. Definitely wouldn’t make the cut at 7.

With regards to League to Union converts, and those who have struggled, Karmichael Hunt is not really setting the Union world on fire at the moment. Other ex champions from NRL to try Union but didn’t last long include Benji Marshall, Willie Carne, Andrew Walker, Craig Gower, Mark Gasnier, Timana Tahu. There were heaps of others, but those guys were considered the best in their position at various times. A few did alright, such as Wendell Sailor and Lote Tuquiri but both those players had a terrible habit of running sideways away from support. Something you can get away with in League as when you are tackled play stops. Not so with Union.

Then, granted, there are a couple of special players who seem to be able to move between the codes with ease. Brad Thorn was amazing. Sonny Bill Williams and Israel Folau also.

In regards to Union to League converts, there have been many great players who either played Union before League, or grew up with Union before being enticed into League in their late teens (nearly every Kiwi and Pacific Islander). Over the years players such as Dally Messenger, Russell Fairfax, Ray Price, Michael O'Connor, through to Cooper Cronk. But top players converting to League these days is fairly rare as there is much more money in Union now (especially places like the UK, France, Italy and Japan). Most present day converts are ‘has beens’ or ‘not quites’. But there are a lot of current internationals that I think could, or could have, made it in NRL. Such as Kuridrani, Julian Savea, Aaron Smith, Ma’a Nonu, etc.

Anyway, thanks for the banter. We should really get back to footy I guess.:)

I don't want to be the pride of SA.

Come on, it's a pantheon of greatness:

Adelaide Crows
Fruchocs
Farmers Union Iced Coffee
Anne Wills
Clipsal 500

One day we'll get there. One day.

You forgot SA entertainment's equivalent of Patty Dangerfield, Ernie Sigley.
