4 and 5, no.
The change in tone from the darker TESB to the Teddy Bear adventure of ROTJ was a deliberate move by George to move oodles of merchandise.
More than one behind the scenes collaborator left because of it. It's been a cavalcade of shit ever since.
Star wars 7, 8 and 9 are being filmed simultaneously by different directors.
Be prepared for mass produced, cash cow Disney rubbish. Yawn.

Did you make that page
Also didn't help the unions denied him his original choice of directors. Spielberg and Fincher I think.
IIRC, Spielberg and Ron Howard begged Lucas to direct one of the prequels... but George said no.
Probably still traumatized by not being able to control a veteran director like Kershner on Empire.
Shame because Lucas' static direction is among the many problems with those horribly flawed prequels
But shit, that's gonna happen when you sit in a booth and make actors stand in front of a green screen all day long for the whole shoot.
Also, the original trilogy scripts went through a shitload of rewrites.
Empire and Jedi also had Kasdan, one of the greatest screenwriters of all time...
George was too far gone...
Self-explanatory. Dunno if there's another one of these threads floating around.
So I just learned that Brett Ebert is our third highest goalkicker in our AFL history. If he kicks 12 more goals before the end of his Port Adelaide career, he'll be second. That's depressing.

er no, George asked Spielberg and he said its not his type of genre, they both said its your space opera you should take the helm
Lucas actually took a smart risk picking Kershner, Irvin hadn't directed anything of great note before hand or after unless you class a remake of James Bond Thunderball with Never Say Never Again or RoboCop 2, he had no issues with Kershner on Empire and gave him freedom for all his input, he admired Irvin from film school and chose him because he wasn't Hollywoodized and was good at developing characters
Yeah that can't be disputed
other then being co screen writer for ESB,ROTJ, and Raiders the rest of his efforts are very ordinary unless you're a big fan of Silverado and Dreamcatcher
edit...
hahaha shit edgie posted pretty much everything I was typing in between being slow to post and bracing my house mid storm
I had always thought since Lucas wasn't unionised and Speilberg was, he wasn't able to directed one of Lucas's films.

yeah originally George wanted Speilberg to direct Empire, but after all the struggles he had with Star Wars and studios giving him the run around and old out dated studio execs trying to undermine him and stuff up his creative vision, he used the money from Star Wars toys to finance the rest of his movies and never have to be reliant on and over ruled by the studio system.
He resigned from the academy and screen actors guild so because Speilberg was still a member he couldn't hire him for the Empire job, all changed later on after Empire when he became powerful and accepted and ended up like everything he despised ...a giant empire, Spielberg then directed the Indy series
can't hate the man though he has a social conscience with his philanthropic efforts
Spielberg must've tweaked his story a bit over the years coz this was him back in 2002...
“I've asked him. He won't let me do one. I wanted to do one fifteen years ago, and he didn't want me to do it. I understand why – Star Wars is George's baby. It's his cottage industry and it's his fingerprints. He knows I've got Jurassic Park and Raiders. But George has Star Wars and I don't think he feels inclined to share any of it with me."
Obviously, he's talking about Jedi re: 15 years ago. But he "helped out" on some of the animatics in Ep III.
