Of course it's considerably less of an issue if your politics are logically and morally defensible.

Here I was thinking you were intelligent enough to realise that politics is an inherently selfish game and there's no such thing as being morally upright when you get involved in it. The only difference being that Labor is smart enough to be populist with promises that they make and let someone else pick up the tab.

I'm sure there are some politicians on both sides of the spectrum that have legitimately high moral and logical views of how the world works, from social to fiscal responsibility. Unfortunately for us, they will never be in a position to make a difference as people like you are too invested in one side to see any merit in the other.

But hey, you're selfish too, just like me, and that's ok :)

Looks like the Davis cup tie between Australia and Kazakhstan is being played in someone's backyard, looking for the hills hoist.

This. I no longer give a shit who people vote for, and I certainly don't judge them on who they vote for either. I used to, and it's futile. Shock horror, there are good people who vote liberal and there are good people who vote labour.

There is literally no point voting Labor or Liberal at this point because you're getting the same thing.

This government manages to be even easier to be in opposition against than Rudd/Gillard and Shorten hasn't fired a shot.

Combined, Abbott and Shorten have the lowest approval ratings ever recorded - if I listened to the ABC story right.

That's telling in itself.

Shorten was only voted in by 40% of the members of his own party and only got the position because of Labor's usual internal bullshit. Should've been Albanese.

I don't know if it was lost in the post but I meant to say that Doctor Feel delivered a verbal rekking with the smugness of a liberal voter.
Yeah god forbid the person who'll financially benefit from the degree pay for it (once they are working, not beforehand which would discriminate against poorer students).

Yeah I'm a bleeding heart leftie but I have no problem with HECS, as long as the repayments continue to be payable as a percentage of income rather than as a lump sum so as not to discriminate against people who don't find a good job straight out of uni.

The only thing that amuses me about HECS is the old photos of Hockey and Pyne getting involved in 'keep education free!' protests from back when they were at uni, and Tony Abbott arranging art scholarships for his daughter while attempting to raise the fees for everyone else (yet another 'ironic parody of a right-winger' moment). Self-interested flogs.

Or conducting a Royal Commission into the Unions vis-a-vis undeclared payments and what have you, while your treasurer, Joe "the age of entitlement is over" Hockey, has claimed $1000/month in taxpayer dollars every month since 1998 for paying rent to his own wife.

It's like, whether you're Labor, Liberal, Union, Big Business, get the ****ing **** out with that hypocrisy.

The thing is democracy is based on freedom of choice

Of course there is three caveats in that.

Choice is

a) limited , because you are handed two apples to choose from. Apple a or Apple b they essentially work to the same system, even if an orange wanted to be considered it would be vetted by the apples , and would essentially only pass by becoming an apple.

B) choice is based on information. Information has in the past been controlled by the media. Media has its own interests and looks after its own interests. The Internet is allowing another avenue for information to be shared , which is good and bad. But how can you make an accurate decision if the information to you is being controlled?

C) when you allow the majority to make the decision , you are relying on the intelligence of the majority. Commonly the majority are uneducated as to the decisions they are making and you will be tied to that anyway. Not many here would agree that the number one selling artist , movie , or book at the time are actually remotely close to being the best at that time. But the companies control of picking the artists to put forward and the marketing and articles they select to get printed will have the influence on what gets the sales.

democracy only looks good next to the clusterf@$& that has been other options.

One video that sums this up best.
