Anybody see tonight's Highway Patrol repeat on 7Mate?

Old mate's doing 165 on his bike. Police in pursuit. Hits a signal box. Destroys it. Bike flips. He Superman flies ten metres. Clips a tree. Knocks off a branch. Crash lands on the car-park bitumen.

Springs up and runs away. Doesn't miss a beat. Then the cops give chase on foot.

Eventually catch up with him but faaaaaaaaaark...

80s FLASHBACK!!!

That was the first video we ever rented back in 1982.

Radio Rentals, Elizabeth. They waived the $90 fee to join the video library coz we bought our VCR in the store. This bad boy was a tank...

Our household had this unit at one point. What a flashback.

You can beat an egg, but you can't Betamax!

We sold Sanyo TV's at Dick Smith when I worked there not long ago. They were seriously the best value TV's you could buy. So cheap and extremely reliable, we never got any back. Then the powers that be decided no longer to stock Sanyo, and instead bought in ****ing shitty Telefunken and weird brands like that (and slapped the same price on them), which inevitably get returned by a non-plussed customer. Pissed me off, typical business opting for the item with the biggest margin and lowest cost price.

I don't know why they do it.

Haven't seen this in over thirty years (shit, I'm old!) but it's a slasher flick with some pretty inventive kills...

We had one too....until a 4 or 5 year old me shoved a sandwich in it.
Thankfully we also had a really awesome Sony one too.

Beta.

The better format.
My Dad loved Beta. He couldn't stand VHS.
He had a sweet Sony Betamax, but only bought a cheap ass VHS player from Cunningham's Warehouse when it was obvious VHS had won the war and blank Beta tapes were becoming harder to find.

I remember Movieland at Noarlunga, it had a castle setup with kids movies playing and an arcade with Time Crisis and Daytona USA racers, that was the best.
The Movieland at Hollywood Plaza, Salisbury Downs had the same setup.
It was awesome.

I remember the local video store "porno castle"

Yes, it was a literal cardboard castle set up in the corner of the shop for adult only material.

It was later turned in to a childrens movie area. The porno just got displayed on the normal shelves in plain view.

Yeah, we bit the bullet in '86 when Beta section of the video shop was dwindling and new releases were getting harder to come by.

VHS won the home video war. But Beta obliterated it in professional and broadcast use.

Hell, I can remember still using DigiBeta years after DVD killed the video star...

After a thorough disinfectant. :D

For some reason, my local blockbuster is still open, all those faded R18+ covers victims of many years worth of sunsets.

My IT teacher told us that betamax was superior in every way, but VHS recorded slightly quicker, less delay after hitting record. The army ordered all VHS for their purposes, and that gave VHS a leg up that it used to win the war.

Anyone here able to verify that?
