Nice Casio digital watch, too.

Silver was always classier than black.

Though I would've gone all out for the video with a calculator watch...

Speaking of Casio, it was the standard scientific calculator at our school. Couldn't have got C- in maths all the way to year eleven without it. BTW, are scientific calculators still a thing?

It's a pretty big story though. It genuinely is.

The Bradman comparison isn't quite there, but he was genuinely the consensus best rugby league player in the world when he left. It would be like Fyfe or Ablett going now.

He wasn't going to make the 53 a couple of weeks ago and he's put in 2 very good performances to pretty much lock him into a roster spot. On <12 months training. What happens when he's 2 or 3 years into the system? It's very exciting for a team without a whole heap to be excited about.

I am enjoy watching the Hayne Plane take off. I used to actually sit down and watch a full game on a Sunday arvo or Friday night when I lived in Sydney and a Parramatta Eels game was on TV and Hayne was playing his first 3 or 4 years. What people in SA dont realise is that he has won 2 Dally M's, the equivalent of a brownlow, won the rookie of the year and plenty of other awards and made state and Oz teams. It would be the equivalent of a dual brownlow medalist of either Ablett, Judd or Goodes going to the 49ers and trying to make it - but not as a punter like Darren Bennett or Ben Graham etc. Could you imagine the hype if Gazza went over there and did what Hayne is doing????

What he is doing is great and so what if its a bit of preseason hype. Getting a contract will be a great achievement but lets wait to see if he can do it when the season proper starts. I still remember Wade Thompson looking like an absolute star in the NAB cup in 2009 but never being able to turn it on when the real thing started.

Anyway interesting to read what the coach is saying in the local paper the San Francisco Chronicle

After Jarryd Hayne’s impressive NFL debut, Jim Tomsula did his best to halt some of the hype: The 49ers head coach insisted the running back, who had a 53-yard run on his second carry, was hardly guaranteed to make the final 53.

“He absolutely has to battle to make the roster,” Tomsula said.

Well, Hayne appears to be done battling after running through punt-coverage units in the first quarter of the 49ers’ 23-6 preseason win over Dallas on Sunday night at Levi’s Stadium.

The former Australian rugby league star had three first-quarter touches, all on punt returns. The results: runbacks of 27, 34 and 23 yards.
In the second half, he appeared at running back and had 54 yards on eight carries, including a 34-yard gain down the left sideline in which he stiff-armed safety Jeff Heath to the turf near the line of scrimmage.

After Hayne’s performance, Tomsula, again, was in everybody-calm-down mode. He twice said Hayne has a “long ways to go.”

Still, are the 49ers really going to cut a player who has averaged 13.6 yards on his first 19 NFL touches? In two preseason games, Hayne is averaging 9.0 yards on 13 carries, 21.6 yards on five punt returns and returned his only kickoff 33 yards. Tomsula, who has admitted he’s terrible at lying to the media, couldn’t keep a straight face when a reporter asked: “It’s going to be hard to keep him off the 53, isn’t it.”

“Zing,” Tomsula said, smiling. “Obviously, the guy’s doing really well. He’s making a great case for himself.”.....

the Hayne Plane...

His 2009, when he pretty much single-handedly took Parra to the grand final, was the most dominant form I've seen in league by anyone not called Andrew Johns.

Eels really captured the imagination that year. Shame they couldn't finish it off with a fairytale premiership. Goddamn * spoiled the party.

All my Parra mates are torn. They hope he does well in the NRL. But they'd love him back in the blue and gold. Coz the Eels just looked to be coming good again after some shithouse years...
