It's an awesome Turkish sweet!

Actually the Ottomans borrowed heavily from the Byzantine empire which was Greek, which borrowed from the Roman Empire which borrowed from the ancient Greeks before them.
So since the Greeks were there before the Romans and Turks, it's Greek. We just made sure that anyone who was around before us over there wasn't around after us and left no trace. Or did we? You'll never know. :p;)

Although baklava is yummo it does originate from Turkey not Greece. :p

Greece and Turkey being neighbours have a special relationship, like neighbours everywhere. Just think
Britain/France
Japan/China
India/Pakistan
Serbia/Croatia
Port Adelaide/West Lakes
:p

ps many European nuclear power stations are built near their country's borders.
now that's neighbourly love for ya

"Gun control just keeps the guns in the hands of the criminals you know.

Ah, that old chestnut. The one which (probably wilfully) ignores the fact that the vast, vast majority of mass shootings aren't committed by hardened criminals, but by mentally ill young men.

There is a great quote from a video game reviewer Yahtzee from his series Zero Punctuation - "perhaps there's a growing sense that our personal safety is less at risk from jabbering extremists inspired by 72 virgins and more from frustrated white loners inspired by one virgin, namely himself."

Video here.

Shared a beer with my boy tonight. My Blue Heeleer Boof is 12 years old and hes struggling. Poured a glass of Schofferhoffer for him. German wheat beer for the dog or bust. I feel he hasnt got long, i'll be on the flipside when he goes. But life moves on.

It has been a shit year for dogs my friend.

My thoughts are with you.

Well there was a fusion of cultures but wouldn't call it borrowed it heavily. But food based recipes have normally originated from the Middle East. Things like kebabs which you guys call gyros. :p

Lol. Not quite.

Cooking meat on a skewer actually has its origins in the Minoan and Mycenaean civilizations of ancient Greece.

The whole slicing or cutting off bits as it cooks like we do today originates from the Ottoman Empire.

So it is a fusion of something originating in ancient Greece with influences from other cultures.

Turks aren't Middle Eastern FYI.

You're too clever for a Port supporter. :)

Speaking of neighbourly love I missed USA/Canada.
I lived and worked in the States for a year. Got the impression Americans held some affection for their northern neighbours
except those who followed ice hockey(am I right Jim Dixon).
Whilst from the Canadians viewpoint it seemed more like

Dont you mean érthoun sto spíti dimitri.

It pays to have a greek daughter in law.

Erthoun means more then one person is coming.
for example..O Dixon kai o Jimmy the erthoun sto Alberton...Dixon and Jimmy will come to Alberton.
or
O Dixon kai o Jimmy erxontai sto Alberton...Dixon and Jimmy are coming to Alberton.

There's a variety of ways to say it.
Ela spiti...come home.
Yirise spiti...return home.

And that concludes today's lesson kids.

Don't know how to ebb a video on my phone but obamas response video is an inspiring view

He needs to be.

Someone over there needs to slap these gun nuts down and say "enough's enough".

Gun control doesn't even mean a total ban. Just have a system of checks and a delay period between registering and purchase.

The funny thing is I have read some of the American opinions to this....

there is a large majority of these people that believe that this is part of some government conspiracy to rid of guns to disarm the American people so they cant fight back when they are thrown in fema camps....

they also believe these shooters are brainwashed manchurian candidate style...

you truly cant make this s*** up...this is the mentality of their society...

Yeah the wife mentioned something this morning about this must be how he tells off his daughters. Very dad like.

Watched it live this morning, the anger was palpable.

I don't get it the same people who are calling Obama and actor and saying this is a hoax are probably totally fine about the government spending an insane amount on military. Picking and choosing which times it's a conspiricy despite the fact that both things result in the same gain for the government - armed advantage over civilians.
