As massive as his career was you've got to feel for Sean Connery, turning down Dumbledore and Gandalf but signing onto The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen.

I think he knew his level and picked it.

The LOTR that had Connery as Gandalf also had Stu Townsend as Aragorn and Liv Tyler fighting at ****ing Helm's Deep. It was a close call for all of us.

Glad to hear Flintoff is back in the commentary box for the big bash this year, he was a highlight last year (not so much his playing form) but certainly his commentary work.

A selection of roles Sylvester Stallone has turned down:

Beverly Hills Cop
Die Hard
Pulp Fiction
Boondock Saints

To think, Bruce Willis would probably be beneath Dolph Lungdren in the pecking order if Sly had any sense.

Beverly Hills Cop would've been a complete flop without Eddie Murphy as the lead.

Saw an ABC News story about Japan now having 8 million vacant homes and prices dropping through the floor. Apparently you can buy houses in an outer suburb of Tokoyo in a port city with declining population for a few thousand dollars. They arent quarter acre blocks but they arent shoe boxes either.

Back in 1989 and 1990 when the post 1987 stock market crash saw cash fleeing into property market world wide and driving up home loan interest rates to over 17% and overnight cash rates of 22% in Oz, Japan was booming, they were going the Multi Function Polis - the city of the future - at what is now Mawson's Lake with the SA government outbidding other states. The Nikkei hit 38,950 on the last trading day of 1989 the 29th December. It hit 7,054 in 2009 and this year has traded between 17,000 and 20,000 this year but was still only at 10,000 early 2013.

Back in 1989 and 1990, housing and property was so expensive that banks organised 99 year leases for families to be able to afford to buy houses with high property prices and high interest rates. But the stock market and then property bubble burst and Japan has stagnated along, partly due to the company man policy, ie you become a company man for life so firms didnt go through the mass retrenchments and downsizing the rest of western nations went thru and they have bumped along a near zero growth rates. They have gone from 12% of their population being over 65+ in 1990 now to 23% and their population has been decreasing the last 6 or 7 years.

It looks like if the economics of the early 90's didnt get you, then the demographics of the teens will. Some families still have these massive loans to finance but their properties are worth less than half the amount of the outstanding mortgages.

Downtown Tokyo is still one of the most expensive place in the world to live, but it no longer is out in front with daylight second.

So the rents have maintained their real price but the capital value has decreased, so anyone buying in the last few years makes a good yield. And who is being attracted to these high yields?? Cashed up Chinese who are looking for a good investment, a pleasant place to live and in the process driving up prices and making it more expensive for locals. Sound somewhat familiar?

Agreed, but I'm just saying how at one stage the world was his oyster and he was knocking back roles that became career defining for other actors.

He thought he could do it all himself after writing Rocky and adapting Rambo, for example he made Cobra after knocking back BHC as he thought the tone should be darker.

Cobra... Yeah I'll take the BHC movies everyday of that week.

Found out one of the Australians that work in the Rio 2016 OCOG is a Collingwood fan. She made a funny face and asked "why?!" when I showed her my Port lanyard and pen. Collingwood... pff
All you had to say when you showed her the pen and she asked why was one word, Impey.

That would have stumped her. :D

Without trying to step on recent sensibilities here, but Beverly Hills Cop would have been a flop with any white person as the lead. Still an awesome movie. Just wished they'd stopped at 2. Not that 2 was great, but it is was watchable, unlike after that.

Main request in hotels, even if it's just for work

A list of good places to eat locally and more water than normal

What is going on in west indies cricket is a tragedy. Genuinely sad. Jason Holder and Bravo the only players who give any semblance of a shit.

Looks good. Look forward to south rd being unusable for another 9 years

"Why don't they do something about this traffic. Bloody government does nothing!"
"HerrDerr! Great more roadworks, bloody government wasting money!"

#fruchoctopia

Imagie the reaction if it was suggested this be a toll road.

The only road I really flipping hate is Goodwood.
