What about it didn't feel like a star wars movie? Genuinely curious.

Just the way it is presented...

When Port was running around from say 2005 - 2008 playing reasonable football at times, as a whole, did it feel like the Port Adelaide we know and love? The John Jones days?

Or did it feel more like Port Adelaide, as the whole, in say, 2010 - 2012, when we were shit on field and getting belted nearly every week?

It's the way it is presented and the feel. It doesn't matter how good the story and the writing and the acting is, with Star Wars, it has a very distinct presentation that George Lucas done deliberately, and it's one thing that was consistent from A New Hope to Revenge of the Sith. This movie does not abide by that.

In short, the camera work, editing, and music score just aren't there anymore, which combined with the visuals, give a generic modern sci-fi look, and in that way, I compare it to Guardians of the Galaxy, and Guardians was better. Even Fin and Han had a bit of Star Lord about them.

John Jones = The Force Awakens
Haysman and Dunc = The Prequels

Sort of spoiler, but nothing huge

How ****ing shit was it when Leia didn't go to find Luke at the end? Why??? Seems like Disney forcing their characters on us, as if she wouldn't go to find her brother, after spending all the resources and personnel looking for him. There was no logical reason for that behaviour.

Star Wars was great, a fitting homage to the originals and nicely set up for another mirror trilogy. Abrams has done it again.

If you didn't like it then you don't really like Star Wars, it must be the nostalgia that you like. It was as 'Star Warsy' as it could be without going too sycophantic.

John Jones?

Was the the guy that made all the customers drink the Kool-aid?

It was average. Really only there to setup the next few. Didn't feel like star wars for the reasons edgie touched on. It was predictable and literally "a new hope" with names/characters switched around.
I don't think you understand how Star Wars and Trilogys work if this is what you are criticising. It's the very intention and style!

Then you've completely missed the point of what Lucas was trying to do with his saga. He wanted other directors so it had a serial feel - so that the story was the main focus and not the camera work and editing. The whole point of it was a retelling of the Arthurian legend in a space setting so that kids could relate to it more freely.

Sounds to me you're a George Lucas fan rather than a Star Wars fan. And that's cool - Lucas is one of the greatest filmmakers in history (not that great at dialogue or directing though). You may like Rian Johnsons Episode 8 better.

Kirshner and Jedi guy still stayed true to a few basic principles of Lucas, Abrahms had a style that I found a bit too different. If that is what he was trying to do, it isn't what he ended up doing. Lucas asked quality directors to head the prequel series and they all declined, short of picking up a no name, what was he to do except to it himself? After 6 movies it had developed a unique and definitive style that was disregarded. I honestly wouldn't care if it were one of the "anthology" movies Disney are planning on, but the central saga should stay true to the established style of the Original Trilogy, which the prequels did.

Just came back from seeing star wars. I thought it was fantastic. Not sure what you guys are talking about when you say it doesn't feel like Star Wars. I think you have a different idea to most people about what a Star Wars movie is.

These aren't spoilers but some people are a bit touchy.

My only gripe would be that using practical effects for so many things and using real sets and locations made the two CGI characters stand out like dogs balls. But I'll take that over this shit.

Kylo is what Anakin should have been. Daisy Ridley stole the show IMO.

I think I've got a pretty idea what a Star Wars movie is and have demonstrated the difference in execution between TFA and the last 6 films.

I'm not saying it's bad, I'm just saying a few changes in style doesn't actually improve the movie. They'd have been better of preserving that style.

No, it wasn't. I like it as a movie, I like it a lot, but I say again, there's a significant difference in the way the film is presented, and the score music is the weakest of all 7 films, which is usually a consistently strong, dare I say flawless, area of Star Wars. To say it is as Star Warsy as it can get it just wrong.

Yeah but what on earth do you mean when you say "In short, the camera work, editing, and music score just aren't there any more"? because George Lucas only directed one film in the original trilogy and the two others have a unique style when it comes to pacing and cinematography. The prequels are just trash and all over the shop in every way. The camera work was static and unimaginative(mostly just shots of people walking and talking or standing still with a camera positioned over each shoulder) and every scene seemed flat and two-dimensional. And the pacing and editing of the prequels is just awful. Though I still watch them from time to time as a sort of guilty pleasure. But it's cool. In the end it's all about personal taste and there isn't a movie in existence that everyone likes.

i like star wars but i hate the idea of seeing a reboot trilogy which is just the same as the original trilogy. i don't need to watch a disney reboot of the same classic story!!!!!

The ending felt a bit rushed. Like some of it was cut. For example why was Leia hugging Ren? They had never met before?

I'm guessing the bond they both shared with Han. Also, if Rey is Luke's daughter(?) she may of recognised her from when she was a child[\SPOILER]

Could this day get any worse.

The eldest daughter has managed to lose my "The Warriors" special edition DVD. No idea where she left it. "It's only a DVD" she says.

Someone is about to have a bat shoved up their ass and be turned you into a popsicle.
