It's so weird, I barely knew them - but as it's part of my community I feel it so much and tonight it has hit me so much...
I live in Port Lincoln and completely get where you're coming from. It feels like it really is a tragedy to the entire commmunity here. And to have such awful thing happen right amongst our day to day lives is just terrible. :(

With two boys around the age of the two in Lincoln, it just leaves me speechless and sick in the stomach how a father could do that.

How do you become so disconnected? Their families will say they're good boys.

Shamans in the Amazon would say that situations like that are indicative of the western world having disconnected with the 'spirit' that connects everyone to the life force that surrounds us. Technology has made us less empathetic because we are bombarded with cerebral thought instead of emotion until pain and suffering is drowned out in a sea of likes and profile picture changes in support of some massive event in a far off land when if everyone just made a real difference by treating each other with a bit more kindness and thought the world would be a much better place.

Yeah, scumbags have been coward punching unsuspecting victims for decades.

It's just now we see the act in all its dreadful detail because there's almost always footage of some kind ready to go viral within minutes of being uploaded, and it makes it seem like there's more of it going on than previously.

Donald Trump may be America's Tex Walker...

Way to bring the mood down fellas.

It's a tough question though. The reaction/response to this incident has been quite different to the guy in Melbourne who drove his kids off the bridge.
How do you define mental illness? The guy in Melbourne it was deemed it was an act of revenge against his partner. Whereas here the angle seems to be that he was a good bloke that was depressed.

I don't have kids so I probably can't understand directly the same rage that other parents would feel.

But I can understand the feeling where you feel so overwhelmingly crushed that perhaps you don't feel you want your kids to grow up in this world.

Urgh. It's a shocker.

Shamans are from Asia.

The origins of shamanism yes, but I'm referring specifically to those who use ayahuasca from the Amazonian regions to help people reconnect to their subconscious.

Escape...before it's too late :D

I feel like I have a pretty good understanding of depression, but I struggle to imagine a version where you think its ok to kill someone you love.

That's genuinely very lovely.
You're a good soul.

I would argue that social media has given a lot more opportunity to understand and ease other people's emotions, pain and suffering than any detached tribe or isolated farm ever did.

Imagine never meeting someone like you because you only know 50 people.

Just beggars belief. Truly does .

Yea it's been an ordinary week or so in SA, The kids at Glenelg & the Port Lincoln tragedy :(

How's his mate waving goodbye to the guy while he hits the ground out cold.. dregs of society

To cap it all off, a grandfather stabbing his own 2month old grand daughter ..... now THAT I can not comprehend. To the lives tradgically lost, you are now safe from this crazy world.... o_O:drunk::(

I can understand possible motives and reasons why the lives where lost, however a 2month year old child to stabbed Just beggars belief. Truly does as manureid has stated..... Its a mad world....

I actually feel nothing for any of this news, nothing at all. In fact I don't even read the articles, what's the point. I genuinely don't want to know.

I have literally become the blank soulless face of a feel meme.

I dunno. Suicide rates have never been higher. Not that that's directly related to social media, although obviously in some cases it has directly contributed.

Bullying no longer stops when you go home.

To the older posters around here, there's always been violence in pubs and streets in Australia, but is it all rose coloured glasses to presume back in the olden days, it was all consensual, 1 on 1 punch ups, and at the end you begrudgingly shook hands like a game of footy?

Sorry to bring down the mood,
But I have seriously hit the wall with what happened down here in Port Lincoln.

Barely knew the guy, sort of knew the family, went to school with one of his bothers, think his missus was a semi- regular at work for coffee, it all happened about a kilometre from where I live - it's all just stuffed and I can't process it any more...

I am also from Port Lincoln originally and feel your pain friend :(

doubt it. there's always been cheap shot pricks around.

what's different is the juicehead/steroid/beefcake culture. nowadays it's extremely easy (and even expected) to be massive and the quickest way to do that is with roids. an extra 10-15kgs behind that punch makes a big difference.
