IIRC, the ABC in the early/mid-80s had the greatest line-up of all-time from 5pm:
- The Goodies
- Monkey
- Dr. Who
And some Roger Ramjet and maybe Batfink! in between...

I read the original story recently (Journey to the West) - more of a kids thing but still humorous & entertaining. Lots of "Oh, dear Monkey" even after he'd mangled someone. And at the end of each chapter, something like: "And what do you think happened next? You will have to read the next chapter to find out".Cool. Study, girlfriend etc must have diverted me away. But seriously courtesy of a one-time friendship with the ethnic Chinese/Vietnamese fruit shop owner who used to have a shop near us I've seen quite a few DVDs of Asian ghost/demon films. King Monkey appears a lot but not the happy, semi-loyal character from Monkey. The feel of that show can't be recreated, it wasn't even the same when the Pigsy actor changed.
Wish they played it in full though. My childhood would have been full of sack puns.I was just about to say I stuffed up because I forgot DBZ
