Nothing is off limits really. Nobody owns anyone.

Everything is situational. I'd absolutely love one of my mates to be going out with my sister (assuming she was back home and not in London). But I get that some people would be funny about that.

Friends and ex-partners totally depend on the people and the circumstances. Some people will be fine with it, some people would stab you to death for the thought crime. Some people will be upset at first but will get over it.

When making those sorts of decisions, you have to consider your friends, how they are likely to feel, and how badly you want to keep them as friends vs how interested you are in the ex/sister/nana/etc.

Life is too short for anyone to be genuinely off limits. Naturally, if you spend a lot of time around someone you might start to find them attractive etc and if you both suddenly find yourself single, who are you really hurting? If I split up with my wife then after some time has passed and we've moved on, she gets together with a friend and they are happy and they are a good match, why should I care? Of course, there are situations where I might, but why live in the past? But I totally get why some people would, so my friend would have to consider how I might react before trying anything.

As long as it's happening between two consenting adults the line is wherever you choose to draw it.

That said you also need to accept that not everyone is going to draw the same line as you.

The space in between is the "cost of doing business" so to speak.
