Anything above 256kps is a-ok but just dont rip from youtube
Who on earth would rip from youtube? people that still go to blockbuster?

Fair dinkum everything is available in lossless formats if you know where to look

A lot of my friends do unfortunately, though Spotify is changing that.

Honestly, my hearing must be bad because I can't tell the difference between 64kps and 256.
64k would be absolutely terrible. 128 to 265 is noticible and 265 to 320 is less so. 320 to lossless isn't noticable at all in my experience.

The hat has arrived, it is far more hideous than you could possible imagine. The brim has some sort of suede on it. Pics later.

My media library is all in 64kbps. Save space. I've always got it backed up in lossless format on these things called CDs and Vinyl.

I reckon it's noticable, lossless files going through a decent sound system sound fuller, cleaner to me

I find it obviously ordinary when people have ipods & other mp3 players docked I seem to notice lack of bass etc. but that may be to do with quality of stereo's being used also.

Of course 320 is fine on portable devices with crap little earphones that's about where they sit with me

320 sounds great on my aiaiai tmas

Apple earbuds are always going to give you shit quality even if its lossless

The equipment matters more than the file when it comes to 320/lossless tier

The fact I know a mp3 rip actually shaves off audio information sits in my mind & as a half-assed musician it offends my sensibilities even if certain frequencies are only audible to the local cat n' dog community.

*But Edgie 64kbps you need an intervention pal that's beyond redonkulous

Again, I physically own 90% of the music, and using media player you could rip at 64 and lower. Whatever the limewire going rate was is not relevant to my music collection.

Porno, however... Some good limewire pr0n. Actually I had a friend that downloaded the video to Led Zeppelins Kashmir, only to find to her surprise it was actually a big gay orgy.

A shitty sound system offends me far more than bitrate. If you play music on your phone, just throw it in an active volcano and dive in after it please.

I remember being really picky about sound quality, its almost good to be past it

Carn it makes little to no difference unless you're a gigantic nerd
I was a mod on a now defunct music sharing forum for three years I was the least nerdy of the bunch

I remember back in the day (about 2004) being in friends cars, and they would burn CD "mixtapes" (as was the style at the time).
Some of the songs I could tell were sourced from 96kbps mp3s. They sounded horrible, but my friends just looked me like I was crazy when I would go on about how bad it sounded.

On WinMX, Kazaa and Morpheus, 96kbps was pretty common in the early-mid 2000s. It took a bit more searching to find a higher bitrate sometimes.

Not even those people would think a 64kbps mp3 sounded acceptable.

Remember having a cupboard full of those 50 pack cd spindles loaded with shit burns from limewire and Morpheus.. 128kbps albumwraps lol

What is converted?

Again I rip straight from the CD release. You always lose quality coverting. Always. A CD rip is far more optimized. Especially video formats. Don't get me started on that.

When you're 15, don't have an iPod cause **** apple and iTunes, and have more AC/DC songs that most peoples entire collection, you gotta do what you can to make space on your portable player (iriver).

Eventually I deleted all the music and just used it to play DOOM on anyway.
