I so hoped that had been the real headline.
Also good, a country that only partly against us in WWII. My father and much of our family who fought in that war can just shuffle a bit in their graves rather than roll right over.
My grandfather, who spent time on the western front in WWI, actually had more time for the Germans than the French. Even made friends with one who was also a schoolteacher by profession. They corresponded with one another after the war, but that had to stop as the clouds loomed again in the '30s. 'Luckily' my grandfather copped a bit of Jerry gas on the front and was sent back to Blighty - otherwise I might never have been here!
