In fairness I did turn off the Freo v Port game which we were losing by 12 goals and switch over to the Essendon v Carlton game in Round 22 2013 which was still close to see whether or not we'd made the finals. And we did!

Not as perplexing as a team finishing 5th at the end of the home and away season, losing to Melbourne in the first week of finals, then going on to win the title.

Beyond the commercial standpoint of it all "first past the post" makes the most sense of any system around.
