The auto industry in this country made a plethora of bad decisions but again something that should be blamed on the Australian people failing to support it to the level it once did and the governments making it easier to acquire imported vehicles.

I don't know what I see more of, BMWs on the road or at the mechanic, but you know, foreign made prestige for the yuppie yobbo.

Why anyone would want to buy a shitbox ugly lookin' Holden over a schmick Renault is one of life's great mysteries.

People want their high-end purchases to look good, not like it's been pulled out of a laundromat and had four tyres whacked on it.

It seems to be that no matter what you buy these days you are ****ing over someone, I buy pura milk because the Coles $1L stuff is shit, i had to throw out a half full 3L bottle a few days after i bought it because it went off.

One of my very good mates from my twenties hung himself on the back of a bathroom door in his parents house 15 years ago. His partner was pregnant with their first child at the time.

Outwardly he was a joker, the guy that was always up for a laugh and he always had time for others.

No one knew he had depression, not even his family. His medical history came out after his death and shocked everyone who knew him.

He wasn't seeking attention, he wanted to get away from the black dog.

I'm sure others here have similar stories so don't be so flippant when talking about something that has had a devastating impact on so many. Given your own experience I'd have thought this would be self evident.

Excellent post Bomber.

It is one of the most if not the most difficult job police (and others) have to handle. There are no answers only a plethora of questions.

The impossible questions 'why' or 'why didn't we see the signs'.

Sadly, the list is endless.

I'm sure they look fantastic to the mechanics continually fixing them. 3 mates have a BMW, and at any given time 2 of them will be off the road.

Renault is a different thing but.

Is this because everyone in Broken Hill is stuck in the 80s (therefore 30 year old BMWs), or is that just you?

Old-timer sitting next to me on the mile long wooden bench in the food court keeps letting rip with the loudest farts.

So loud they turn heads and people keep looking over our way and I swear they blame me for his volcanic arse eruptions.

Meanwhile, old mate and his wife just DGAF...

There's a perfectly rational reason why the ol' timer is acting that way. You see, those of us of somewhat senior years go by the motto:

"It's better to fart and stink a little than bust your a**e and be a cripple":D

Most new cars have their issues. Everything is disposable nowadays.

My wife had a VE commodore for her work car and it was nothing but trouble. Went into limp mode one day, had it towed to the Holden dealership and their fix was to plug it into the laptop and reset the computer to make the error code o away, without any idea of why it shut down or if it would happen again.

If you owned a BMW, you're probably not too worried about repair bills. They are for a totally different market.

Yep. A mate owns a 70's Ferrari and does all his own services including complete in-house motor rebuilds.

Nope, they're all new, one of said mates lives in Adelaide. New 4 wheeled status symbols absolutely fly out the door in Broken Hill. It is a mining and tradie town.

I would make a self deprecating joke about Broken Hill but I'm actually fiercely defensive of it, for a nowhere country town it is strangely progressive on a variety of issues. I've a few homosexual relatives and friends and they all say there's nowhere that welcomes them and makes them feel safe better than BH. Even trans people say it.

I guess its just me stuck in the 80s (but 70s for cars).

Ok peeps.

I'm on the Seaford train and I'm 90% sure our friend "how was the win Clarko?" is sitting just across from me.

Ask him if the cats can win the flag?

I've heard from some people they essentially have an overwhelming feeling that the world/ their family and friends will be better off without them. The thought of suicide at that point is not the selfish escape some people rattle on about, but the best thing to do for everyone, I imagine it can be as strong as a desire to eat, sleep, drink or have sex, which I'm sure everyone knows can be absolute.

It sounds genuinely terrifying to me...

I'm sure it varies radically from person to person, but your own brain can be a real campaigner sometimes that's for sure.

It's a very complex thing for sure.

Philosophically I stand on the side of everyone having the right to choose when they die, in reality however, as a son, a brother, a father, a husband, a friend and a colleague, I would find—and certainly have found—it difficult to process the grief from that stand point.

It's been very close to me far too often and I absolutely agree with you.

Shortly after someone very close to me chose that route I was at a party and introduced to a bloke who had been through the same thing. Our conversation went like this...

Me: "does it ever stop?"
Him: "no"

We didn't need to speak further.

I don't comprehend getting to that point where it's your only option I really don't. But I implore any of my male friends it's not weak to ask for help so please, please do. I say male because males between 20-40 are far more likely, and the numbers are growing, just reach out.

Please.

I saw this on the wall of a place I was doing work at.

Along with Bomber's earlier post, this is one of the best responses possible. It's a situation police handle on a daily basis and because of their (developed) necessity to distance themselves from the immediate trauma, there still exists forever the gut wrenching family/friends trauma.

I still have strong memories (not nightmares) of those I handled in the dark ages but those families and friends left behind have totally personal traumatic emotions.

It is a world without answers - no text book exists.

Haha, I were only being facetious matey.

I have some feelings about suicide that people generally don't want to hear, so I won't share them, except I will say that you can still commit suicide anyway if asking for help doesn't work out, so why not try asking for help first.

I'll qualify this by saying that I have no personal experience with mental illness, but I feel like the bolded would seem pretty reasonable to someone in that situation.
