I still can't believe that the ignominy of NZ beating us to the punch didn't cause a wriggle on.

What power do the States have here? Can they go it alone?
99% sure they can't. Daniel Andrews would have done it as soon as he got into office if he had the power.

Didn't Canberra try to go it alone and got shut down?
I'm not entirely sure of the timing but I think this was during the ALP's last term.

Rowan Atkinson was about 16 or 17 when that picture was taken.
About right. As for Barry McKenzie. My High School PE teacher, and his wife, went to take me and a couple of mates to see this, at the drive-in, when it first came out (I was 14 at the time).

Despite his best efforts we couldn't get in so we ended up watching some spaghetti western.

The NT's euthanasia laws got shot down. Territories don't have the same rights as states though.

Im all for SA facilitating a nuclear power industry, legallising Marijuana, legalising gay marriage aswell as Euthanasia. SA would corner the pink, black, green and yellow (cake) dollar. State's financial woes sorted. Vote 1 for Papa G.

40 years ago South Australia was the most progressive state in this country.

Bizarre.

Just on gay marriage, and please hear me out, I honestly don't understand the fuss. For people that want it and see it as a basic human right **** it is only marriage it's not the sacred thing it was held up to be 2000 years ago..... For those that are against it, why? If people want to get married let them. How does it impact on your day to day life. People are ****ing mental. They try so hard to stop each other doing shit that should just happen. I honestly don't see the marriage fuss except of course the obvious "you can we can't" argument from the side that can't.

I know I probably haven't explained myself very well so in summary,

You wanna get married regardless of how you gender identify or your sexual orientation? knock yourself out.
You wanna have an abortion? It's your body and your choice.
You wanna vote for Sarah Hanson-Young? You're crazy.

Vote 1 Eddie Dingle.

I'll make all MY wildest dreams come true.

Yeah Eddie theres a whole bunch of legal situations where married couples can act and de facto couples can't, decisions about end of life and so on, not to mention legal recognition being needed for visa in other countries etc

Regardless of the feelgoods, gay marriage being possible can at least make a start on fixing those problems, but we probably need to work on them individually later too

Generally agree although firmly for marriage equality. It shouldn't be a big issue (marriage... lol) but it is.

Either have marriage equality or remove the existence of marriage as a legal institution, render it purely a meaningless religious rite, and the religions can discriminate to their hearts' content as far as I'm concerned. Either way.

Miss Wong has dispatched her minions, your house will be picketed in 20 minutes.

Personally, I just want gay marriage to be granted so it gets consigned to history and we can stop ****ing talking about it.

Of the people who are tired of talking about gay marriage, you would be right near the end of that list

I don't mind Australia generally in terms of the economy. I feel like we could do better but our welfare system is better than a lot of countries, although it's always threatened by a conservative government.

Morally though we're a total embarrassment. Not having marriage equality sorted in 2016 is alarmingly f***ed. Being so backwards environmentally that the Coalition has politically engineered this economy vs environment you-can't-have-both dichotomy in 2016 is f***ed. Holding asylum seekers in offshore concentration camps where they are subject to flagrant human rights abuses is the most f***ed thing of all.

Our welfare system sucks balls! I know numerous families who have multiple generations of people who have never/or barely worked for their entire lives and are allowed to quite happily just keep keeping on keeping on whilst I pay massive taxes due in part to our beautiful welfare system.

Italy v Spain was a great game to watch. Italy was very organised in defence and really closed down the space that the Spaniards had to work in. But once they got possession they were quick to act, surging forward with 2, 3 sometimes even 4 players and created a lot of chances. Could've easily finished 3 or 4 nil.
