Stargate reboot??
Yes, the original film makers want to do the thing they actually wrote, rather than the TV series idea which went off on a huge tangent.

Avatar isn't a great comparison IMO, people went to see it for the experience knowing it wasn't a great film. The 3D was ground breaking. Also it had James Cameron, probably hottest director of the 80s and 90s returning from a long hiatus.

Devlin and Emmerich are rebooting the StarGate franchise with a new movie trilogy.

Okay, that should be interesting. Loved the TV series.

I love the original so it was always gonna get a go from me. Hopes weren't high but that was worse than I imagined. It wasn't even the tokenism Doctor Feel alluded to a few days ago, that woulda been a non issue if the rest of the movie wasn't a turd, but from start to finish it's just a mess. It's on par with Port Adelaide. I couldn't have fathomed it being such a disaster.

It's actually worse than Jurassic World in that regard. Way worse (albeit JW isn't exactly fresh in my mind).

I haven't seen the new ID but it'll take some doing to be worse than Jurassic World.

I just can't get over the epic stupidity of that scene when the I-Rex escapes. It turns its heat sig off because it's half frog (sure) and somehow knows that we have IR cameras on it (alrighty then) and then the muppets proclaim "hey it's gone, let's go in the enclosure because reasons!" Then the damn thing kills the obese rent-a-cop, escapes into the jungle and they call back to HQ to find its whereabouts using the already implanted tracking device! Why the f@#k wouldn't you check this before going inside the cage that holds the most deadly thing on the planet?!!!

Argh makes me do mad.

The Force Awakens is starting to get the Avatar treatment. It comes out, everyone is impressed, word of mouth leads to a good extended run...

...then a bit later, everyone's opinions change, a lot to do with its popularity. With Avatar it made everyone think they were being original by saying "Dances with Pocahontas in Fern Gully!!" without realising the irony that they were being less original than the movie itself.

With The Force Awakens it's the cry of "another death star? It's just a new hope with modern graphics aaaaa".

I love both and don't care if people don't like either, but I can see the similarities in how TFA has followed Avatar's popularity path. It won't go that low though... Avatar only made $90 Million in its opening weekend and made it gigantic off of word of mouth thereafter, yet everyone who doesn't like it seems to have not liked it from the start! Crazy how that works.

Yeah you gotta give filmmakers a bit of slack here.

I mean, how hard would it be to come up with a completely orinigal premise considering how many films/books that have already been made? There's almost always going to be an overlap with something else (same with music).

Try to think of a movie that could be considered original (for all intents and purposes). It's hard.

Right now the only one I can think of is The Matrix.

Still haven't seen Avatar and probably never will.

I missed the boat when it came out and it's probably pointless watching it on a tele
I saw Avatar in 3D in the cinema when it first came out and have watched it a couple of times on a 3D TV since and IMHO the 3D effect is better on the TV than it was in the cinema.

First day of school holidays. This is me right now.

Whatever happens man don't compare yourself to Dave Growl in any way, shape or form.

You have talent.

In fact the dump you took this morning has more talent than old mate.

I think the James Cameron thing can't be used, considering like I said, it only made $90 Million in its opening weekend. If people were really champing at the bit for Cameron after a long hiatus, surely that first weekend would have been record breaking.

The 3D thing is a good point though, there still hasn't been anything that's touched Avatar's 3D and it's been almost 7 years now. The hype was based entirely on being enveloped in a fantasy world, which is what it provided. The story wasn't strong on originality, but it was solid enough to provide the foundation for the fantasy world.

Then time takes over and it's not cool to like Avatar and so any time it is mentioned on any news site anywhere, look at the comments. People come from everywhere just to let everyone know that they have also made the Pocahontas / Dances With Wolves / Fern Gully connection. They're more passionate about telling everyone why they don't like an insanely successful film than they are talking up the movies they do like.

Star Wars is suffering the same fate as more time passes.

3D always was such an overrated gimmick.

I watched about 2 minutes of boxing in 3D on my TV when I first purchased it, never saw the 3D glasses since.

My PC monitor is pretty cool though, it does 3D without the need for glasses. Similar to the Nintendo 3D but a lot better.

There was one thing that made my jaw drop in 3D, it was an imax blu-ray about the ocean and it was a whale swimming but instead of it the cheap pop out effect the whale was swimming in the background and you could physically see the water in the foreground.

3D should have been about giving movies depth but instead only use it for a few cheesy pop-outs.
