Nice, it's great to do for interest etc. but, you will ALWAYS be in negative equity with it. There is little value outside of personal achievement (which should always be enough of course). So I've been toying with the idea of a doctorate since I've now finished my masters. I just got an email from the Uni sent to selected students based on their area of study and academic achievements telling me the DSTO want to take a group of students in to do their PhD and want to show some around the DSTO to see if there are any areas of research that pique their interest for them to do their PhD there with mentors/grants/scholarships.
Can't say i'm not a little excited at the thought, there are so many areas of research that interest me there. I can handle the four years of shit pay. I certainly signed the **** up immediately for the visit.

It's been about 5 years since I've been out there - even at the reduced levels there was plenty of interesting stuff going on. There's a bit of movement to and fro at the academic level from time to time and they have done formal collaborations with Adelaide Uni and UniSA in the past, sometimes brokered by a vendor wanting to get a product evaluated under the guise of "research".
What's your rough area of PhD-ery - math/eng or one of the darker arts - would ya have to shoot me if ya told me?

When it comes to the positive vetting, admit up front that you're a Port supporter - if you try to hide it that's when they'll know they can't trust you. They will check your BigFooty posting history anyway.
ICT. My undergrad was networking and security, my masters was business information systems. So it's likely that it would be a cyber security related focus, though i'm informed that I shouldn't feel locked into a certain area.
When are you next hiring? You can go anywhere in IT once you are in the door, all the skills translate across a lot of areas.
Okay i've been thinking this for a while and it's time I got it off my chest.
Every time DaTBird187 posts I parse his username as Dat Bird and think o shit waddup!

Be honest Doctor Feel, legitimising your BigFooty username is the number 1 motivation here!![]()
When I was applying for jobs out of uni basically I got through to the final 3 at this business from a huge bunch, get to meet the GM as he's doing the final say and I'd heard he was a massive Crows fan, first question was who do you support, I'm like Port. Didn't get the job and considering I was living with the other person in the final 3 who didn't get the job who was also a massive Port fan I figured from this point on it was best to spring it on future businesses by stealth.
