I know how you feel.

My parents built the house I grew up in. It was a new sub-division so no houses there previously. When my mother died (my father had died previously) the house was sold to a developer who promptly demolished it. That was sad.

I really felt for my dad after the family home got sold.

Leading up to the sale he worked his arse off to get the place looking mint and get the best price possible whilst going through a pretty difficult time with divorce etc. He tiled all the living areas and the bathrooms, repainted it inside and out with well co-ordinated colour schemes (he used to be a graphic artist) and did quite a bit of landscaping too.

Within 6 months the new owner had ripped up all the floor tiles to polish the concrete underneath, repainted everything in various shades of light grey and turned the front yard into a quarry (and not a considered Japanese style garden either, just a shitload of white rocks with a weird cactus thing in the middle).

All that hard work completely wiped out by a hideous storm of beige wank.

IMHO developers are the scum of the earth, my next door neighbour who was elderly and was starting to suffer from dementia, her family put her into care and sold off the house, when it went to auction a nice couple was leading the bid before i overheard the auctioneer whisper to a developer go another 5 because they can't afford anymore and lo and behold they bought the house.

The campaigner even had the cheek to outright lie and said he bought the house for his family and would be moving in soon and then drove off in his brand new Jaguar.

Wow... I feel genuinely sad seeing the house i lived in, grew up in being sold. :(

Mum still lives in the same house she grew up in, been in for family for 60+ years now. My uncle lives in my Great Grandparents house which has been nearly 100 years. Buggered if I know what to do when the time comes for the youngster of the family (me) to decide what to do with them. Those houses are as much a part of me as any external passion I have, like Ports or rock music.

Better hurry and get my license and then conceive a few kids to make it their problem.

Actually this is the best New Zealand safety video

That ad was directed by Taika Waititi who wrote and directed Boy and Hunt For The Wilderpeople. One of the kids in that ad is Julian Dennison who is also in Hunt For The Wilderpeople.

I'm starting to get off the hook re: kids. The other half is "struggling with the concept of kids" because she's become so career driven in the past two years and wants to do so much with her time, I reckon that NAB ad about a kid from age 0-18 costing a parent 450k has put her off, did lol.

Nature finds a way, it sounds twee, but 90% of people didn't want the kids they have, when they had them.

Yeah you're biologically programmed. I'd say almost all women at some point will want them pretty bad. It's really our only purpose. (People that is)

She's almost 30 and has been craving them for like the past three years, but she's over it. She'll probably be back on the wagon in a few years though.

Life without kids certainly has its advantages, ridiculous amounts of time, money and freedom being the obvious ones. Especially the money, if you live together all your living expenses are automatically halved.

I'm 31 and so is my fiance so we're standing at the fork in the road as we speak. The family pressure is getting up there too, especially since all our siblings are either gay or have devoted themselves to being dedicated rogue singles, so we're the only realistic hope of a new generation. Our feelings on the matter aren't relevant apparently. Bloody wogs.

Anyhoo I think you can be perfectly happy in life being child free by choice. It's probably the ones who are childless but really want to have a family that struggle with it the most.

I'm actually really looking forward to having kids. Life is just about making it impossible. I don't know how people manage to hold both careers , buy a house balance time and work commitments and have kids. Its financial suicide for me to be honest especially with my partners career just starting and mine hopefully taking off in the next cpl of years.

There has been a lot spoken about housing affordability lately putting off having children while you save but one kicker not so spoken about is it takes so much longer to reach your career path. My gf studied for 4 yrs, took almost 2 years to find a job, and has spent around 3/4 years now kicking around in intermediate positions. In around another 3-5 years she could possibly have the positon she actually trained for. Considering she is 30 and I'm 35 that's pretty shit. Her having a break to have kids would de rail that, me being 35 makes time fairly sparse.
