Sounds like Wind Power did in fact play a role in the state wide blackout, two wind farms suddenly stopped generating electricity (cause still unclear) shortly after the transmission lines went down. Causing the interconnector with Victoria to overload.
PRELIMINARY REPORT
BLACK SYSTEM EVENT IN SOUTH AUSTRALIA ON 28 SEPTEMBER 2016

From the Executive Summery
Pre-event
As per standard operating arrangements, AEMO, on 27 September 2016, received advice regarding the potential for a severe weather front to
move across SA on 28 September 2016.
The electricity system in SA was stable and there was no unusual activity on the system. Immediately before the event, approximately
880 MW of SA wind generation, 330 MW of SA gas generation, and 610 MW of electricity imports via two interconnections with Victoria were collectively
supplying 1,895 MW of electricity demand to SA’s 850,000 customer connections.
Event
The predicted weather front moved through SA on the afternoon of Wednesday 28 September 2016, including high winds, thunderstorms, lightning strikes, hail, and heavy rainfall.
The weather resulted in multiple transmission system faults. In the short time between 16:16 and 16:18, system faults included the loss of three major 275 kV transmission lines north of Adelaide. Generation initially rode through the faults, but at 16:18, following an extensive number of faults in a short period, 315MW of wind generation disconnected (one group at 16:18:09, a second group at 16:18:15), also affecting the region north of Adelaide.
The uncontrolled reduction in generation resulted in increased flow on the main Victorian interconnector (Heywood) to make up the deficit.
This resulted in the Heywood Interconnector overloading.
To avoid damage to the interconnector, the automatic-protection mechanism activated,
tripping the interconnector. In this event, this resulted in the remaining customer load and electricity generation in SA being lost (referred to as a Black System).
This automatic-protection operated in less than half a second at 16:18.
The event resulted in the SA regional electricity market being suspended.

The cause is unclear... Really?

Anyone who has two brain cells that they can rub together knows that wind turbines automatically shut down in high winds, there are numerous videos online with turbines self destructing in high winds. No turbines spinning means no power generation. The whole blackout was caused by a distribution issue and not a generation issue which everyone seems to be thinking.

This whole blackout kerfuffle will be the catalyst of nuclear power in this state.

I was a home birth, my younger brother and sister were home births, two close cousins were home births, it all went fine, everyone's perfect (especially me).

One of the above-mentioned cousins just had a baby, birth complications, oxygen deprivation, likely physical and/or intellectual disabilities as a result.

Obviously the last thing anyone in my family needs is lectures from an asshole like me, so allow me to vent in this relatively anonymous environment: **** home births! Why even take the chance?

Say what you like about this bloke but he's got a pretty relaxing voice.

Off tomorrow to a hateful eight style cabin in Kosciusko national park after a couple of days of easy travelling to get to Albury. No phone, internet or TV reception for a week. My kids will be ******, tried explaining to them but don't reckon they comprehend.

He's a fascinating man alright. Still love Burzum, no matter his political ramblings.

Are the kids old enough to play Cards Against Humanity?
