Death Magnetic's songs were a collection of good riffs that seemingly were mashed together on paper with no real flow, structure, and fluency within the composition, resulting in various changes that never really went anywhere and tracks that outstayed their welcome, like some sort of Dark Knight "You either finish a good song or keep playing long enough to become a shit song".

Ironically he made a 10 minute song with Bon Jovi which I reckon is a cracker

*retreats to fallout shelter*
All Nightmare Long is a good song.

So my awesome half-sister in year 10 (long time portaloo readers may recall her previous experiments with eating rainbow cake and noting it comes out green), who got the good brain and work ethic combo, has just told me that she hasn't been feeling anything for months, is worried about everyone else's expectations of her, and she's been cutting herself (but not enough to bleed really).

Die Hard 2 is on Channel One at the moment.

It's better than I remember. Certainly not in the same league as the original or With A Vengeance, but I'm enjoying it.

A granny on the plane just said "someone should get their ass kicked over this" and referred to someone as a "porker" in the same breath.

Magic.

It's such a tough time for kids. I have a few younger cousins around the same age and you can see that the expectations (which are mostly just perceived) weigh pretty heavy on a couple of them.

It's great that you're in the loop now so at least you've got the opportunity to help her.

This is gonna sound crazy...but I'd take her sky diving. Or go surfing. Or scuba diving. Something that's real that has a risk to it.

She just wants to feel alive. Kids are so wired to the artificial constructs of society that they don't feel danger anymore. There is no risk, so there's no reward. What's the point of doing what everyone else wants if you don't get any joy out of it?

And do it on a school day. Rock up to the school like Ferris Beuller and just pull her out of class.

She's very young, hopefully that works in her favour...
