Since there are no sex scenes in Star Wars, how do you know there weren't any?
Carn bomber. We don't actually need to witness people f@#king to know what their preferences are.

Yeah **** off with spoilers

Spoiler tags take 5 seconds to apply
When is the acceptable spoiler deadline? 2 days? 5 days? A week? A month? Or is there some sort of register where everyone can sign up to that they've seen it? Then we can tick everyone off one by one and then talk about it...

OR

The people that haven't seen it take some personal responsibility and if they're really keen on something not being spoiled, maybe don't go into a thread of "general discussion" where Star Wars has been discussed for days on end. I am huge Game of Thrones fan and usually can't get to the episode till hours after it has finished. So I turn off my phone, ignore Facebook and avoid internet forums.

I get that someone blurting it out coming out of the Cinema on opening night Homer Simpson style would be annoying, but this militant approach of late is getting ridiculous.

The answer is 42.

I'm not sure if that's minutes, days, weeks or years though, they didn't specify.

Movies are so over analysed because of the interwebs.
I think they were over analysed before the Internet. And I think someone like David Lynch loves to play on people's penchant to over analyse. I'm almost convinced he threw Mullholland Drive and Lost Highway out there just to sit back and watch as all these people tried to find a universal meaning in something that was very dreamy and personal to him.

I would really like to see a homosexual Star Wars character that isn't a robot. You know, someone that is actually capable of a physical relationship.

In terms of representation the Gay and Lesbian community is way behind other minorities. Do they even exist in the SW universe?

I mean would it have been the end of the world (so to speak) if Jyn was embracing another woman on the beach in her final moments, or Cassian another man?

Maybe just give it a couple of weeks? People don't have to be super keen on something to still get annoyed that it's ruined for them.

Depends on the spoiler. Giving away plot twists can kind of ruin movies, and as Dylan said its not particularly hard to add spoiler tags.

A month at least is pretty fair to put stuff in spoiler tags.

It drives me insane!

I had a good mate message me on Facey yesterday saying he was really pissed off at me because I shared a photo on Facebook and said "**** yeah Spurs, great win for TD" because he taped the game and didn't want to know the result.

Like that is my fault?

I get asking if someone has seen it before discussing it in an open air conversation, as people often can't avoid that, but IMO someone coming into a general discussion forum should expect to see spoilers for a major mainstream movie that has been out for 5 days.

Sorry.

The point is, you would end up with an over the top pastiche of "gay" to convey to the audience that a character has a particular sexual preference. That to me would be a worse crime.

I like to think that Boba Fett is gay. Cold and clinical mercenary whose clone dad flew him around the universe in a hot iron.

It was filmed in England, FYI, like 4 of the previous Star Wars movies were. So much for shipping in the lead.
Not hard to find minorities in UK or Europe either. Its enough to get their right wing fired up about refugees, yeah? And Africa...not far away at all.

Two of the main characters were Asian.

What other female parts did you want them to include? Another girl as part of the main cast? It would have diminished the impact of Jyn and just been tokenism.
So including numbers of Asian characters so small you can readily count them isn't tokenism, or one female lead isn't tokenism, but more than one is? Is it true that hamburgers eat people in Rand McNally?

Saw was an extremist and so had to be male (how many female jihadists do you think there are)
If there is even one female jihadist, then why not?

Jyn's father is self explanatory
Its sad when Big Bang Theory has more female weapon designers than Star Wars.

Cassian Andor had to be male to counterpoint Jyn
Yeah no actually. No basis for this at all.

Baise Malbus and Chirrut Imwe a lot of people think actually might be gay the way they acted around each other,
LOL what? Winks and nods are not inclusion, and I doubt there's even that.

Bail Organa (Jimmy Smits) was part of the prequels...so what role in the story as it was presented would you change to female?
If these pissweak reasons why they need to be as they are is all you have, then all of them

The Imperials are always white, always human and always male because the Emperor is meant to be a fascist xenophobe who is against progressive values. It's why the leader of the Rebellion is female (Mon Mothma).
Even if you took that as being the reason for the Empire being white guys, why is the Rebellion actually pretty bloody similar? There was not an absent of White Guy Opinions around the big table they all shouted at each other, nor of White Guys among the fighters or pretty much anywhere else.

She told everyone on board the ship she was on what her dad had said on the hologram. They even make a huge point of that fact when K2-SO says "Destroy the reactor and the whole system goes down". That's how you said it: "The whole system goes down."" Cassian Andor says to her 'They were never going to believe you. But I believe you.' That sounds like a vote to me. You think all those soldiers - who disobeyed orders to follow her - did so without acknowledging her as leader?
Not because of her combat expertise, but because they believe she isn't lying about what her father said.

I'm happy to accept that in a time of war, it's the men who are conscripted to fight first because they are disposed to aggressive behaviors.
Rebellions/revolutions are never gender specific. Everyone gets caught up in them, not conscripted.

I'm happy to accept that the odds of a female soldier, which exist (hence the pilot) but would be rarer than a male soldier, volunteering for what was a suicide mission would be virtually non existent.
Female Suicide Bombers: How To Fight This Dangerous Trend
On 9/11 US fighter jets took off on a suicide mission. Meet the pilot willing to give her life…

I mean seriously just use Google mate.

And all of those guys were just cannon fodder anyway, so I don't know how including a couple of girls does anything to further the story itself.
How does having it be almost all guys further the story?

Like it or not, the wider population doesn't actually enjoy seeing women get beaten up, shot at or killed - but is fine if it happens to men, because that's what men do. It's hardwired genetic coding to want to protect those that have the ability to continue the human race. You make the movie you want to see, it would tank faster than Carlton, because it would only appeal to a certain cross section of society.
Ahhh yes, so I see, you're saying that guys only want to see films that are basically all about guys? That they'll boycott films and those films will fail?

Mate, if people can sit through those shitty prequels and they still make money, maybe they can bear a bit better gender representation hey.

Stay off social media if you dont want spoilers/scores etc.

But getting movie and series spoilers on a footy forum is a bit different. Use the spoiler tags.
This isn't the Round 2 Game-day thread or Leadership Group thread. This is pretty much akin to Social media IMO

But whatevs, happy to cede to the wants of the community.

I'm sure there's a middle ground.

All it would take is a subtle touch of hands or even a look between characters to convey sexual chemistry and preferences.

You don't need stereotypical gay voice to get the message across.

Yeahh and if you have't seen it in that time, you would surely have to expect people are going to talk about it and if you don't want it "spoiled" take some personal responsibility and avoid places where people are likely going to be talking about it!

Sorry for being snippy, people complaining about spoilers is a personal pet peeve of mine.
So avoid football forums because posters may be discussing movies. o_O

It would be different if the discussion was in a thread specific to Star Wars discussions or even latest release movies discussion but when it is in a random thread people will sometimes read posts that end up spoiling the movie for them. So if people are posting details that may spoil the movies for others it is good etiquette to use spoiler tags. I don't agree that I should have to adjust my behavior to make up for other people's poor behavior.

Having said that, I haven't seen Rogue One yet so I have not read any on the movie that appear in this thread other than the very short "I liked/didn't like it" posts.
