I've never gone political on this forum, but I happened to watch this the last few episodes of Q&A and won't be watching it again.

The opinions raised during the discussion are supposed to be presented to a national audience backed by research, instead it all just seemed what the panelists think and feel about certain topics subject to their own life experiences, which they're not an expert in. Shouldn't the most qualified, well-versed and expert opinion be brought onto the panel instead?

It didn't seem grounded in any objective, scientific, quantitative way by any of the panelists, but it passes as "entertainment" for the masses and that's okay.
i don't know, at least it provokes a discussion?

you flick over to commercial tv and have a choice between my kitchen rules, im a celebrity get me out of here and married at first sight or some shit

q&a might not be the font of all wisdom but at least it gets people thinking

you have to get interesting 'personalities' on it or it would be boring as batshit. no one is going to tune in to 2 academics banging on about something.

South Korea will be on high alert. Their highest court has just kicked out the president ruling on the impeachment, after the parliament impeached her in December and she appealed to the Constitutional Court. The decision was unanimous, but that wont help much as hundreds of thousand are protesting on the streets for both sides of the argument. South Korea has only been a democracy for 30 years so who knows were this goes. The North are crazy enough to try to take advantage and fire off some sort of artillery.

It will be interesting to see how long it does take for one of these battery systems to be set up on a large scale here in SA.

I know the labor government here are going through some sort of energy review for SA and will be a big call on their behalf if they have the balls to invest/borrow the cash that is needed to set up a large scale battery system.

It would be better than building a so called clean coal power station and with all our renewable energy in SA might be a viable option. Especially as the battery technology becomes a lot cheaper. The tesla 2 battery has doubled its capacity for the same price as the first version and that's in a relatively short period.

I have been a pro anti nuclear reactors, but I have now turned that around.

I have the answer to our electricity woe's at present, and that is to go with a LFTR, Liquid Fluoride Thorium Reactor. Its 100% stable and uses 10% less fuel to generate enough electricity for the whole nation!

Thorium, is an element which is in abundance in Australia and the rest of the world.

This technology was put aside when the atomic bomb was designed because Thorium is no good for explosives, instead they chose the Uranium based bombs and all our Nuclear power plants.

This is the technology that will fuel our next voyages into space, which is the whole purpose of this technology

Batteries are good, but to produce the batteries will create unnecessary carbon emissions for the power they produce.

India have one, and China are in the process in building one.

If South Australia doesn't DO SOMETHING... NOW, we will live on candles.

I just can not believe that we use the oldest technology in the 21st century, Gas & Coal to provide the base load of our electricity. I also can not believe that our government who have been consulted for this didn't do their research. And how much did we pay them for that.

Seriously, vote for me, and you will have either free electricity or pay 1/4 what your paying now.

This is an opportunity to become THE electricity state for our country. Lets lead the way, instead of following or being bullied.

I only stumbled across this in a TV software channels (which is bloody great) called KODI to watch AFL games without Foxtel.

It was a post in a thread on here which gave the link to download the software. I have set it up to watch free to air TV using the TV Card i have installed in the PC. This software will allow you to create you own TV shows.

Heres a thought, instead of Podcast, if setup right Bigfooty could have its own TV channels...FREE.

Even though I work in the renewable energy industry I will have to agree with you regarding nuclear energy as our base load.
I haven't heard of Thorium before but I can't see why we couldn't have a Nuclear power station close to Roxby,ie north of Augusta some where (Leigh Creek?).
Far enough away from the general population as to not have too many NIMBYS.
The waste could go back to where it was taken from. The transmission lines wouldn't have to be extended to far plus would add to the job creation. The only downside is the water needed but I'm sure they could pump from Augusta and fill the old coal mine pits with sea water or there is a Big lake at Leigh Creek already.

Yep it's a simplistic solution but something will have to be done at some stage. I can see all the brown coal power stations in Victoria shutting down in the not to distant future and that's where our power comes from when the our demand exceeds our generation.

But I'm not sure if any government state or federal would have the balls to be he first to start a nuclear Energy industry in Australia.

It doesn't need to be far away, why not the Gillman Power station down at the Port. Thorium doesn't use water to cool it, it uses salt (fluoride).

I will find you a link....

Got caught out a little on this stuff !! I was in the UK a few years ago and believe it or not it was warm (29C) and I asked the girlfriend (at the time) to grab a few frothies from the supermarket. Tennents Super arrived, half way through the 4th can (in an hour) I started thinking "I'm feeling a bit chirpy". It was then I read the label........

That i don't doubt, i cannot drink whiskey on the rocks.
Just tried a jacks on the rocks just now and just to say that my palate still hasn't matured, it does leave a nice after taste but sipping it is like sipping battery acid.
Ditch the ice. :)

Unless you're drinking it with mixers you don't put ice in as it diminishes the taste. JD Old Number 7 is fine with a mixer but Gentleman Jack should be drunk neat.

Good whisky from anywhere in the world should be drunk neat and at room temperature.

Currently working my way through this lot.
