You've either forgotten Leon Davis or are trolling.
Nah Leon was deployed as a decoy in 02 and 03 I think he played his role

How lucky have Richmond been??? Dan only rates our three premierships in four years at 73, 81 and 83.

So many anomalies in this list it is not funny. Give it up Dan... stick to making ladders adjusted to match ratio

West Coast 1992 way too low... where have you factored in travel and the fact that they achieved something that no other team EVER will..... the first to take the cup out of Victoria.
I think that achievement is often understated.
Some of our worst 90s form came in the first several weeks of '92, still outside the top 6 in Rnd10, and entered finals in 4th.

R1 - Bye
R2 - lose to Sydney by 3
R3 - beat Saints by 33
R4 - lose to Geelong by 24 (at home, conceded 95pts in 1st half)
R5 - draw Brisbane (first time they hadn't lost to us)
R6 - beat Tigers by 1
R7 - lose to Roys by 20

So by end R7, we'd failed to beat the bottom 4 from '91. West Coast won just as many games (21) in '91 as they did, combined!

We are failing to win in places like the SCG, Carrara, North Hobart. i.e. places that Vic teams would have to travel to as well.

A lot of annual shtposting in this thread by the way. Some aspects of the list may appear flawed or we might disagree here and there, but generally it is a really solid, exhaustive attempt, and I'm content with the Richmond 2020 placing. I don't see too many others trying. Thanks Dan26, keep at it.

Why would anyone try? It’s impossible to compare sides from vastly different eras. As for exhaustive - the top 21 teams get a small paragraph and the bottom 11 a brief comment. Sides 22 to 113 are just listed without any comment given as to the order. Probably because it’s a monumental exercise in pointlessness.

I am guilty of what you might call shitposting but I have also given extended, measured comment and analysis which is either ignored or replied with things like ‘classier’ or ‘aura’

its an annual list for an Essendon fan starved of sucess to remind himself they were a good team 20 years ago and every decision that comes down to Essendon vs some other team invariably ends up going the bombers way for various intangible reasons, even in the face of clear statistical evidence to the contrary

The 2011 Collingwood team have the best ever percentage in the history of the game and is deservedly recognised as the greatest team of all time.

I like how those teams that beat Essendon in GFs (Brisbane 2001) or denied them a shot at the flag (Sydney 1995 and North 1999) are punished in the rankings

A few stats...

The 2020 Richmond team ranked fourth-lowest of any premier for halves won (i.e. 1st & 2nd qtr = a half, 3rd & 4th qtr = a half):

43.3% Fitzroy 1916
52.1% Essendon 1993
52.6% Fitzroy 1922
57.1% Richmond 2020
57.5% Fitzroy 1905
57.9% Melbourne 1900
58.0% Hawthorn 1976
58.0% West Coast 2018
58.7% Carlton 1945
59.5% Carlton 1914

They were equal 95th for quarters won and equal 57th for ends (1st & 3rd qtr, 2nd & 4th qtr) won.

Essendon 2000 ranks #1 for each of these (78.0% Q, 86.0% H, 92.0% E).

There's a rough correlation, but what's apparent from this is that Richmond is a club which has a habit of peaking at the right time of the season.

I'm reasonably content with the order produced by this crude statistical method and concur with its suggestion that 2019 was comfortably the strongest of the modern trio.

For the record, Dan's top 10 on these three measures returned
