It is early days of course, but a couple of sides appear to be in better nick than last year.

But are they the real deal, or are they like Collingwood last year, the false dawn?

Collingwood (2001 model) - wrecked the Bulldogs with a win better than any of the first five in 2000.

Tarrent looks useful, Prestigiacomo solid, and Rintoul looks good too - are they the real deal?

Hawthorn - unbeaten after three against good sides (and Freo at home). Hay appears good, Harford looks a different (better) player and Crawford looks like the Crawford of 1999 - are they the real deal?

Richmond - wins against two sides that most would have picked as Top 4. Hilton appears the tough nut Richmond have missed, Tivendale looks OK and Bowden appears to have stepped up - are they the real deal?

Carlton - have beaten Essendon despite no one giving them a chance, with a team that was in no way 'to old, to slow'. Are they a new generation who will keep the Blues up the top? Hulme is a real tough operator, Fevola looks a genuine full forward and Houlihan is improving all the time - are they the real deal?

great post...
look i think that as you said its still early days and while some teams look very promising many things are due to change.
The roos will not win the wooden spoon as it is hard to imagine their good era end so poorly. I think that Geelong, St.Kilda and Sydney will step up this year but i don't see Sydney on top of the ladder and that also applies for the cats and the saints!
Who than will be the minor premiers? well its a hard call but i don't think that Essendon will be up there (*runs*), or Carlton... maybe Melbourne? ok now i am just being a one-eyed supporter!

I dont know how the ladder will shape up or how the final campaign will go down but one thing i do know... get ready for one hell of a season with lots of surprises and many teams stepping up and away from their own shadows!!!

GO DEES!

Fluke. They'll miss the 8.

Teams I've seen live.

COLLINGWOOD-Really good, they were really hard at the ball and made the most of every opportunity. They won almost every ball that was in dispute after quarter time.

RICHMOND-with all of the hysteria surrounding our game it's a little difficult to make a solid assessment. But, they were a little easily sucked in and no matter what Campbell says there players were still intent on evening up torwards the end of the game. Maybe this is a lack of experience?

BRISBANE-Very loose in defence. Not very hard at the ball. I know they were missing three good players, but Voss was the only one to put in four quarters and good as he is he cant do it by himself.

ST KILDA-The least impressive of the sides we've played so far. Looked slow and uninspired. Harvey was great but, like Voss cant do it alone and needs some consistant support from other players.
