The election is over, the finger pointing has begun for the Labor Party. The Coalition are jubilant with delight with their upset win.
To get the ball rolling:
  • Will Albo lead the Labor Party to the next election?
  • What will be the legaslative agenda for the Coalition?
  • How will the Senate impact the Coalition and its legislative agenda?

No discussing left v right politics. That means calling someone a leftist or rightist – it is dumb and everyone hates it. Take that s**t back to America or one of the other threads on here. This thread is for nuanced discussion for those who don’t want to be pigeonholed onto a progressive/conservative spectrum.

I don’t think Albanese will be. I think labor will realise the ways of their errors and put in a leader that’s more right leaning. Labor can’t afford Albanese, he is just two left. Labor lost because Bill played the ‘poor union boy fighting the top end of town’. Please, learn your market Bill.

Bowen can paint Labor as pro-capital party. Which a lot of their policies are (see negative gearing and dividend imputation reform).

He can tweak policies and obscure them within broader reform agenda. This will be easier once the economy runs its course and people are willing to take risks.

Jim Chalmers will be better suited to that. Bowen will be known as the guy who didn’t know the tax free threshold amount.

Albanese and Chalmers are probably a good combo. Not sure which is better suited as leader.

But the ALP will probably need to keep the genders happy and have a female deputy. Plus we still dont know how hard the factions will fight.

For the next few months they will hate eachother way more than they hate the Coalition.

The legislative agenda of the Coalition will be spending this term in Government paying back the people / organisations (giving favours such as lucrative contracts) who gave them political donations (bribed) for their Election Campaign.

Whatever else they say and do will be empty and shallow words / actions from an empty and shallow Party. Theoretically they can claim they were elected for any number of things from even opposing viewpoints based on past actions and speeches.

Labor will be out of office for another three terms unless they can reconnect with working class people. The mortage belt on the outer suburbs and the country. They can only do that by distancing themselves from the inner city chattering class. As their last great leader once said "you cant make poor people rich by making rich people poor".

So after having more time to write this, i have thought this was the best way to describe it.

Bill Shorten created a labor policy that portrayed himself as the 'union boy from Maribyrnong'. The hard working labor boy. The policies labor employed were not bad at all, but they failed to hit a critical point, they failed to garner support from who the real voters of today are. When you construct a set of socialist economic policies like he did, you aren't representing a policy of a fair go for Australians. On Q&A the other night there was a retired man who was an SMSF retiree. The removal of claiming imputation credits would have slashed his income from $40,000 to $32,000. A haircut of 20%. Is that a fair go for Australians? Is this man a 'top end of town' retiree? Or is he a man who created his own wealth to live from for retirement? He is the latter. SMSF retirees don't all reside in Point Piper and Darling Point, they reside everywhere. Bill missed that.

Whilst looking to enact this policy on SMSF, Labor also pushed for negative gearing to be slashed. Another socialist nail in the labor coffin. They are essentially saying let's not encourage investment property purchase, and let's not give a tax break for a loss to an investor. They failed to see that this in turn facilitates renters to look for good property where prices are not grossly elevated. What is an investor going to do who can't negative gear anymore? They will look to raise rent in order to cover the mortgage cost whilst not wanting to fork it out from their own cash flow. Makes sense.

The climate is a policy that represents the future, whilst i fully endorse strong climate action, Labor failed to pitch successfully. You have to have good economic reform first, then slowly and carefully introduce the climate and energy policies. Let's face it, once you have the labor voters on board, they are not objecting to climate policies are they?

All in all, Labor won't go anywhere with Bowen or Albanese. Jim Chalmers is the only way forward as he represents a progressive Labor man with enough economic conservatism. Bill Shorten still seems to think we are living in the days where all his voters are wharfies and union boys that are 'doing it tough'. Look no further than the Greens, they appointed Julian Burnside as a candidate for Kooyong! Kooyong the equivalent of Wentworth in NSW! Burnside is a man of considerable wealth and prosperity, a highly successful lawyer. Now if the far left can appoint a candidate like Burnside, the Labor Party needs a better candidate that Bill 'Union' Shorten.

That and godliness. If our PM is a dinkum about his faith he believes that the earth is 2000 years old and you can pray the gay away. Or you can believe that his christianty is all for show and that he doesn't actually hold those values. Idiot or conman, the choice is yours.
Scott Morrison has the ability to become the greatest Liberal Leader ever if he can subtley introduce slow and gradual climate action policies whilst maintaining economic conservatism. He is a bit brighter than people think.

Also I thought that Bills channeling of the anti christians such as yourself did him no favours whatsoever. While most Australians aren't church goers most do identify as christians at some level or at least the moral code it represents.

They're going to need to pull something out quick - the RBA have already admitted they should have cut already emergency level interest rates earlier this month. The economy is in serious trouble. Their predictions of 4% household disposable income growth are fantasy.

Yep, I was watching this with interest. If truth be told my entire Economics training can be traced back to reading a Preface to a collection of Dilbert comic strips, but even with this training I could forecast that, for example, arbitrarily increasing power prices by 20% and arbitrarily increasing Interest rates out of cycle, and both for zero discernible improvement in service or benefit, would reduce spending & growth and stagnate the economy.

...but I don't have the prowess of Economic management like The corrupt and deplorable Liberal Party.

We've reached the point where geography is important.

Labor has to choose a leader from either Western Sydney or Queensland if it wants to seriously challenge at the next election, Queenslanders hate Victorians.
Labor would do well to kidnap Bob Brown as well to avoid another convoy which surely did more harm than good.

That convey did zero to help anything it was supposed to

Firstly, I believe that just because Albo is from a particular faction in the party doesn't mean he's restricted to promoting only that particular sort of ideology.
Also, I think Albo will be good because I think he is a good communicator, particularly with the people the Labor Party needs to win back to the fold.
He'll also be good at negating the good old fashioned Aussie bloke persona that Sco Mo has built himself upon.
And if the Libs try to sell Morrison as something else, then they open themselves up to attack from accusations that Sco Mo is actually a fake.
And Aussie don't like fakes.

Correct. Jim Chalmers the obvious choice and only way forward.

What State the leader comes from is not as important as how the party is going to make it safe for a chunk of traditional Labor voters to vote for Labor again and not for Pauline Hansen et al. That will go a long way to winning back seats in Queensland in my opinion.
Don't look to the Rudd 07 example of how to win in Queensland. By 2007 the One Nation Party in Queensland had one foot in it's grave by then.

Well no, it kind of is. Jim Chalmers is a progressive labor leader that isn’t going to disintegrate the potential vote in QLD.

His christianty is all there for the votes.
Saying you're a christian doesn't lose you any votes in Australia - but it will pick up many undecided voters though.

Albo will be an upgrade on Shorten for sure, but is he the right person to take them to an election?
He was the member's choice 6 years ago over Shorten until the party room chose Bill.
