He'll be there, but Anthony will have developed into the premier young defender in the league and forced him out... umm hopefully

I hope you're right. I've predicted Collingwood to be successful sooner rather than later into the next decade. In the meantime, however, the kids are not at that stage where they can pose a threat on the competition. The nucleus of the team will be Pendlebury, Thomas, Brown and Cloke, along with other players that I haven't mentioned. We have a bright future in that respect.

a very unconvincing side u need leon, meds, clement, wakes in that team

I'd hope that in our best side nest year that Wakes does not get a game and Medhurst struggles to get a game. Not because they are bad players but because the depth forces this.

I do agree that Clement and Leon need to be added to that side and another addition - Sean Rusling. Would easily have him ahead of Dawes next year.

Buckey will take over as coach when he retires, :D
I hope so anyways

Star players don't often make good coaches. If Buckley is to be our coach, I hope he spends a minimum 2 years after playing learning all about the coaching side of the caper. People Management is vital, as is strategic thinking, planning and delegation. It's effectively a senior management position.

The most common mistake made in Business is taking your best operative and making them a manager/team leader. It's a completely different skill set and fails more often than not.

Tony Shaw would of been a much better coach if he had taken a break from Collingwood. As much as I hate Tony Shaw sometimes, I reckon he could make a good go of coaching now although he may have lost touch.

I disagree, only because I like his commentary...he and David Parkin in the same box :)p) is a pretty good combination.

I think the "star players don't often make good coaches" theory no longer holds the water it once did. Then again it depends which of Matthews, Roos, Blight, McKenna & at a stretch Williams you would consider to be a star as they have won the majority of the last 10 or so premierships.

The common denominator there obviously is that most, if not all (Blight?) are former captains (which fits in snugly with the "team leader" role) & as such would be considered as having at least some of the skill set required of people management.

Agree totally re the "learning all about the... caper" though & I reckon that is part of the master plan.

As to the topic, reckon we are at 9:45 at best but still looking forward to the year.

Let me say my peace...If Collingwood don't make the top eight I won't be the only diehard fan calling for Mick's head - served alive, if possible. He could be retired by the new years, in that case he won't see out his contract, which expires next year, and will be branded a failure (at Collingwood) in no uncertain terms.

Eddie has to realize Mick Malthouse isn't the only man for the job and that other people are seeking a coaching position some of whom are genuine thinkers of the game.
