I want to blame the ump's and do for the shit decisions late in the game, but at 1 stage we kicked 1.5 whilst dominating play in the second term, that's what ultimately cost us the game, shit disgraceful decisions aside

Lolz I was going to post a picture of maggots here but freaky beat me to the punch.

The umpiring was beyond a joke today and most neutrals were awake to it.

WWE wrestling has more integrity than the AFL these days.

Maybe the inconsistency in umpiring decisions (and I'm not just talking about tonight's match, I'm referring to all matches played this year) is due to the fact we have 3 field umpires? Seems as if each field umpire has a slightly different interpretation on the rules...what one umpire may deem a "push in the back" is play on to another...hence the inconsistency...

I wonder if we could return to the days of just having 1 field umpire? Probably not, as the AFL deem the game "too quick" for 1 umpire to officiate...

There were a lot of dubious calls, occasionally one went our way, but the only one that really shat me was that non-HTB on the WC player in our goal square late in the 4th. Did nothing to get rid of it, just looked at the umpire and lay there doing nothing for a few seconds. Inconsistent with how HTB had been called prior in the game.

7 of their 12 goals from free kicks, 3 in the last.

I think we're just copping the crappier umpires as a result of being where we are on the ladder.

Best umpires, umpire the best teams.

the problem for the eagles is they now rely on those free kicks to get over the line

those free kicks will not be paid in finals and they will be sent home fairly quickly

The umpiring was a average for both teams, lets be honest.
Off the top of my head:
Weak free against Darling marks x 2
Cox held off the ball about to take a mark in the goal square not paid.
The opening goal of the game was something weak involving Milne.

It went both ways, I reckon the eagles may have had it worse, but that could just be bias.

West Coast have immunity to HTB frees.

The umpires ignored obvious ones to them all day and pinged us at the first opportunity.

Mist opportunities in the last qtr, West Coast smashed us in the contested footy in the last qtr too and oh yeah those ----ing umpires. Plenty of promising signs for the saints Stanley, Wilkes and Roo forward works well, Newnes and Ross are coming along nicely and Dal of half back is where he should play for the rest of the year.

I wish I could post that picture of Fry with the squinting eyes. I'll just say 'watch the replay'.

Stuart Wenn.

I had to look him up, most famous for the following, which says a lot really.

In the first round of the 2007 AFL Season, Wenn came under controversy for awarding a free kick, in the wrong position in a match between the Kangaroos and Collingwood. Shannon Grant from the Kangaroos, was awarded a 50 metre penalty, which should have had him kicking for goal from the goal square instead of 15 meters out. Grant hit the post, resulting in a point, and the kangaroos went on to lose the game by 3 points [3]
Late in the 2010 season, during a match between St Kilda and Richmond, Wenn allegedly sledged Richmond's Daniel Connors, telling him "You're batting way out of your league", leading to him being dropped from the final round of AFL matches.[4]

Tonight is symptomatic of a long-term problem going on. We receive an average of 16.7 free kicks a match, the 2nd lowest in the league behind Carlton. We concede 21, the third highest behind Footscray and Port. That's a difference of 4.3 a match, the highest by some way in the league and interestingly inverse to the Eagles.

Tonight was 22-14, a baffling stat considering we laid 34 more tackles. The third quarter was the only one where we received more free kicks and I jokingly said to my family 'The umpires will soon rectify this mistake.' I was right.

Two bafflingly different interpretations of holding the ball. Chopping the arms could not have been more inconsistent if it was left to a coin toss. Non-controlling umpires finding frees only for West Coast.

The game started well, the umpires put the whistle away and it was good. Then they decided to influence the match and influence they did. Tonight is a prime example of either incompetence or corruption and it's been going on all season which makes me lean towards the latter. Gieschen will inevitably come out and defend these muppets, once again bringing into question why this numpty with no umpiring experience is in charge of the bunch of rank amateurs umpiring our game. And they are amateurs, this is a part-time job and they certainly seem to be treating it as such. No wonder Shaun Ryan (a rare example of competence) quit for his day job.

Pay peanuts, get monkeys and this year the monkeys hate the Saints.

Regardless of dubious calls, you guys lost the game when Montagna did not hand ball over the top.

Whether it was selfish play, or just thought he could ice it is besides the point, should have handballed it over the top.

You made mistakes, but so did they - it was a fairly ordinary standard game.

The Eagles were on the end of a couple of shockers - the Darling push in the back, the non kicking in danger....but aside from that you guys were ROBBED!!!!! How is it that these guys get such a free ride every friggin week????

Hey fellas. Not trolling here, being genuine. I love my team but it pisses me off no end that soft frees get paid, either way. Sick of the dodgy ones favouring us. Saints brought it today and deserved the win. Pretty empty win for mine.
The Priddis free kick was soft as they come and the free kick against Darling where he got penalized for bumping Roberton was wrong but the Saad free kick against was no worse than the one the Eagles player got not given against him for HTB in our goal square. That was a howler.
