On the main BB I was reading about the Carlton/Collingwood rivalry posted by Joffa & asked about Hawthorn's rivals & Mobbenfuhrer answered a bit & then he said to read 'the Rebel Cheer Squad' & then I was reading another post about the likelyhood of fighting breaking out & under Hawthorn the guy mentioned 'feral behaviour from rebel cheer squad is absolutely disgusting'.So what I want to know is who are the Rebel Cheer Squad, what do they get up to,is anyone who comes in here associated with it & has there been a book written about it.

Dipper, the rebel cheer squad was the actual official Hawthorn Cheer Squad until they created a break away group. There was a bit of disharmony among the cheer squad at the time.So a faction group was created.A group of about 30.Lasted a few years, now disbanded.
Most times they would sit at the opposite end of the ground,(as the cheer squad).Since merger business, our club is very tight knit.
BTW I think our cheer squad now is extremely innovative, and like all Hawks very passionate.
Probably been asked before Dip,but how did you become one of us?? (and chosen with alot of taste,I might add)
(I am not in the Cheer squad btw)

Thanks Glenferry. In answer to your question I ended up barracking for the Hawks when they first started showing Australian Rules in England in the early/mid '80s,being a bit of a sport nut anyway I just took to the game big time.I now know obviously that we were the dominant side then but I'm not sure if I realised that then,I remember taking a big dislike to the Bombers,Carlton & the Swans & I just seemed to fall in love with the Hawks.I think that a certain Robert Dippierdominico had a lot to do with it,we just don't get dudes looking like that where I come from & just seeing him running up the wing for all he was worth kinda got me hooked,I was about 13/14 then & quite impressionablew I suppose. But I remember that whole side with affection Patten,Tuck,Ayres,Langford,Dunstall but probably my favourite player was the Kid-good old Dermie Brereton,he was a real star & I just loved watching him in action.I've never regretted my decision even through the lean years & although I suppose those glory years will never be repeated I'm just happy that the club is still there as a merger with Melbourne would have slayed me,perhaps my only regret is that when i spent a year in Aussie (97/98)they finsihed 2nd bottom of the ladder but I've promised myself that if they make it to the GF then I'll get my Guernsey & scarf out of the wardrobe dust off my Hawthorn stubby holder put a plane ticket on my credit card & come over to Mewlbourne for a big Hawthorn inspired Piss up.
Cheers

It's not too good really,on normal TV they have a 1 hour show every week during the season that has main highlights from 1 game & then just snippets from all the others showing a few top marks & goals & a bit of rough stuff! But last season the Mongrels only showed Hawthorn once all season so I have to keep up with things from the internet or from any Aussies that I meet in London,at the moment a mate of mine from Adelaide is over & he's a Crows fan so he tells me a bit about whats goiong on & I tell him that Jarman should never have left Hawthorn to go there!
I spent most of my time in Sydney when I was over there so I only really got to see Swans games but I saw Hawthorn play Essendon over here at the Oval in 1999 which was pretty good even though we were robbed by the umpire in the last minute.

Just thought i would add something

A couple of years ago there were two squads..the officail cheersquad and the rebel cheersquad.
I was a member of the official cheersquad and well, it was rather obvious that the officials would only cheer when we were winning where as the rebels would cheer throughout the game no matter what. That led to the clubs decision to make the rebel cheersquad the official cheersquad and the 'old officials' went and sat in the members and they still try and compete with the new officials.

So what im saying is, the official cheersquad we have at the moment use to be the rebels, and i must say from personal experience, its a hell of alot better!
