Malthouse - Laidler you're no good, you'll rot in the VFL

Longmire - Hey Laidler, welcome. Straight in to the team for you.

Hmm...

Warnock over Hampson? At least Hampson has a dip.

We are simply a basket case.

Please please please piss off the board, Sticks, McKay and any other delusional blokes in the football department and allow Mick to do his job.

At least he's not delusional about where Carlton are at.
Mick has made similar comments about the club. You can't expect them to prevent a negative face and get down on themselves publicly.

They're going to make changes. Yet Swann was criticised for saying the list will change again. Apparently he's destroying morale.

I'm just pissed about the lies. I was told by someone very reliable last year that Mick didn't rate the list early on, yet there he was out in public talking about premierships.

Well surely nothing could have destroyed morale anything more than what we saw today. I had some little kids sitting with me and was constantly shielding their eyes!! :(

Because Laidler is doing great things in Syndey isn't he?

Every time we think how 'bottoming' out is the best solution, think of this scary comparison

In 1995 Carlton and Geelong played in a grand final together

Since then, the lowest Geelong has been on the ladder was 12th

Since then, we've 'won' 3 wooden spoons, Geelong have won 3 premierships

Losing isnt the key to winning
Geelong got it right after that year they ****ed up badly ('06 I think it was?)

We relaxed after 2011 and began to rate our list way too highgly.

Going to be a little controversial here but I'm really worried about our Captain, Murphy has had a fairly mediocre run as captain. It worries me that he does not have the strength to shake serious tags and with the decline of Judd the last couple of seasons, I don't think Murphy has coped well with the primary tagger from other clubs. He's a good player but he's not what he should be and all the heat goes on Gibbs but to be honest, Gibbs has many physical attributes that make him arguably more important to us than Murphy.

Come at me haters!;)

Wayne Hughes was no good who would have thought.

This is what happens when you draft no one from between 2009-2012.

Ratten keeping too many duds.

Our list is terrible and we only have ourselves to blame.

Rebuild it, Mick will keep it trimmed, hope to god that Rogers is a good recruiter.

Anyone who doesn't want to play for the jumper can leave.

Anyone who thinks they can hold the club to ransom can leave.

Anyone who thinks they are bigger than the club can leave.

This club has been around for 150 years & it will be around for 150 more. No single player is bigger than our club. Anyone who doesn't want to commit to the cause can leave.

I would have laughed at myself a couple of weeks ago, but it is completely likely we could get pick 2 for Gibbs. All any club has to do is offer him equal money to what he is on with us now & we should get a band 1 compo pick.

That's the playing list dealt with.

Now onto the board. There needs to be a total clean out. It's full of people clueless about footy but deep pockets.

There is no point replacing Sticks with someone who is already currently on the board. Nothing will change. I can only hope there is an outsider willing to challenge. Or in my dreams a group of outsiders ready to challenge the entire board. Our issues start at the board and have infiltrated their way into the footy club.

Invest so much more in recruiting and development. It's not funny. This is the foundations of a football club. Get this right & you're halfway there.

I sit here writing this as I watch Geelong play West Coast. The way Guthrie, Murdoch, Caddy, Horlin-Smith etc have slotted into the team is a testament to the Geelong footy club. Littered with injuries, and Geelong still play the Geelong way. Any team and you'd expect them to slide down after being up for so long. But not Geelong. And it's mostly due to them having everything right off field. Recruiting, development, leadership etc.

So where's the controversial?

The mixed messages from Mick are a major concern. Before round 1 he said "we are approaching 11 o'clock..." in relation to the premiership window. Apparently he has already asked the board for an extension, citing we need to rebuild the playing list - telling them some two weeks ago that the talent on the list is simply not there. That meeting was two weeks after the round 1 game.

He says "I'm loathe to believe we can dish that up again" post essendon. What exactly does scoring 58 points against Melbourne constitute?

Then's there's the McKay comments which contracted Mick's comments or vice versa.

I respect MM but I don't like feeling like im being fed lies. I'm a full member and its disrespectful.

Calling it a night. Sleep easy that 2015 comes with an improved playing list that we don't necessarily have to trade away the house for.

Menzel, Buckley, Cripps, Graham, Bell with another 10-15 games in them and another pre-season of weights and conditioning.

All of our players with +150 games experience should be considered to be traded.
This is the quickest way to fix the list - when I say quick it will still be 6+ years.
No point of holding on to them. We need a good culture and the current bunch of senior players have a shithouse, lazy culture. It's bad for youth development.
I am sick of this "I don't need to play well today cos I can still get a game next week anyway" kind of attitude. It's been going on for years!

Before ANY rebuild is even begun to be thought about, we need this guy:

Its time to come home SOS. We need you more than ever.

I feel all the heat goes on Gibbs but not many focus on Murphys underperformance, I think Gibbs is probably more valuable than Murphy.
I hear ya. Read the rant thread from the beginning. Murph gets plenty.

Rebuild plan:

Keep
Murphy - Copping all the attention in a talent-less midfield

Gibbs - It's up to him,may very well leave at the end of the season which will net us a good late pick. Unfairly bagged, accept he's a good honest player and still one of our best.

Judd - Need him there for leadership and kids to play around.

Buckley - long way to go, is the future, needs to do better.

Simpson - same as Judd.

Lucas - Has no trade value, still a young player, has ability, just a poor mindset.

Menzel - Has ability.

Watson - Going to need him, feel he's going to struggle but he has some ability and we are going to be ratshit.

Yarran - good player.

Mclean - has no trade value, going to need hard bodies with these kids, still not a great player, would throw around at trade period just in case.

Docherty - Will be a good player for us.

Cripps - good player

Giles - has ability, needs to go on with it.

Holman - has ability and an attitude

Henderson - good player

McInness - give him one more year, needs to do more

Bell - When we are good enough he won't be but we need a big body like his to protect the kids.

Graham - desperate for AFL games, not convinced he'll be a star but may be a capable player.

Everitt - best skilled carlton player.

Curnow - going to need a big body like him, his ball handling is ok, disposal is average.

Thomas - Good player, struggling in a crap team

Jamison - hope to get years out of him.

Tuohy - Playing badly but can play.

Carrazzo - need a senior guy like him around, if he finishes by going poorly then he can retire. May Retire any way. May be better off retiring.

Casboult - going to need him because we have no one else.

Trade
Walker - One of our better players but in the wrong age group, could land a high pick, keep otherwise.

Kreuzer - would only trade for a good price, very early draft pick but very very unlikely to get it. Big guys who don't mark it just aren't players who influence matches. Body is ordinary. Probably worth keeping seeing he has no trade value, time to trade has past.

Robinson - Probably has poor trade value but his skills are just far too poor and he can't run. Would keep him if we couldn't get a trade as we will need senior bodies during the rebuild.

Warnock - If anyone wants to give us a third round pick or better then can have him.

Garlett - Front runner, no physical aspects, if no trade is available then keep. Will have purple patches.

Armfield - Keep unless we can get a third rounder or better.

Delist/retire

Rowe - not good enough, poor hands.

Waite - Terrific career but he's done.

White - average player who's finished.

Ellard - Not up to it. Good ordinary player.

Scotland - can still play but he's nearly finished and we need the room.

Undecided

Temay - needs to start playing good consistent footy.

Bootsma - has skills, attitude and approach are questionable.

Strategy
- Trade for draft picks.
- Aim for 3-5 years down the track.
- Avoid free agency
- Get as many draft picks as we can over the next few years in the first three rounds.
- Hope that our recruiting is better than it has been
- Embrace the coach, his plan and give him everything he wants
