Tough job fixing our list now...There is just no trade value on it.

Do we get much for Simpson if he leaves at the end of the year? Give him a chance at the big stage elsewhere.

Wont get anything for Walker, just put him in the forward line...
I don't know about that.
We won't get back for any of our players what we have invested but could still do ok.
Walker could fetch a low to mid 20s.
Warnock could get even higher if shipped off to the right place.
Bell if he actually wants to leave like I saw posted earlier could get a pick in the national draft. Which is more then what he was worth.
Gibbs will get us a top 10 pick through free agency.
Robinson could get us a 30-40 pick maybe?
Lucas would be worth a 25-35.
could package some up for even lower picks.
Even McLean would have some value on the market you would hope.

If we could manage to get 5 picks under 30 we would be laughing.

Not super keen to see walker go but sending him to GWS for a straight player swap or an unactivated compo pick, otherwise I can't see anything better than a second rounder for him which I'd pass on.

Very optimistic. Most of those names barely can/can't even get in the team that just lost to Melbourne.

Who would give up a 2nd round for Lucas or Robinson?
Warnock is a good tap ruckman but that's it.

So, I've read 7 pages of this thread...

Wow, thank god we are not putting the inmates in charge of the asylum...!

Some perspective is required, BF can change the most calm person into an inmate!!!

List turnover has started, CONFIDENCE is our major problem...

In Mick we trust.

They just have to keep working hard, the confidence thing will turn around

Yeah, the work rate thing is concerning.... I guess the way around that is to play the kids but that brings inconsistency.

I think the club need to identify a spine of players to persist with and build the 22 around that.

The spine of players should be players like Rowe, Wood, Casboult, Watson, Lucas etc

If by the end of the year they are no good then I guess we will know what will happen.

Obviously, Players like Murph, Gibbs and Judd are a given.

Andrew Walker said something very interesting post game. He noted we are much quieter out there when we are struggling compared to other teams, and in the Melbourne game it was no different

Im not exactly sure how you make people come out of their shell and lead on field, but we need a lot of that before anything else. Some people at the top to start setting a strong example.

I was watching Spangher play in the Hawks game and he was busting heads, and has been all year. We dont have a single player on our list that gets anywhere near him when it comes to 'showing us how its done'. We need to start building a culture of tough football with a win at all cost mentality.

We are a team of rolls royces competing against rally cars in the mud

With some posters wanting to cut the club off from the Pratt/Mathieson funding & knowing what this would do to the club financially in the immediate future, how would the club's members react to us taking the Hawthorn road i.e. selling home games for the long term? The trade-off for Hawks supporters losing 4 home games a season is a club that is financially strong off the field, with a large membership base topped up by Tasmanian members, & which has been extremely successful on-field.

The reality is our club is built on a foundation of wealthy backers who want some input into the club for their dollar & it would be very hard, nigh on impossible to fully replace the dollars we currently receive from these backers, in the Victorian corporate world as it is today. Admittedly Collingwood have done it (although one of the Pratt sons-in-law makes a regular healthy financial contribution to the club as part of being on the club's board), but I'm not confident we could achieve the same level of revenue growth. Hawthorn, as previously mentioned, have done it by drawing on Tassie's hunger for live AFL football, whilst Geelong are in the unique position of having the support of the largest regional city in Victoria, including the local council.

Personally I wish the club had beaten Hawthorn to the punch & got in on Tassie, or put their hand up for some of the financial largesse being offered by the AFL to get a piece of the Gold Coast action. As it sits now, we have left our run too late for such opportunities & if we are to ween ourselves off the funding from wealthy backers, we are going to have to find a new, untapped source of revenue to do so. What/where is this new, untapped source of revenue? I would be very interested in posters' thoughts.

Sounds like a bit of a catch-22, doesn't it? Admittedly, I'm one of the posters, but I'll defer to you on what it would do to our club to completely part-ways with the benefactors. Just very sad and frustrated, like many others, and I keep hearing (rightly or wrongly) that Jeannie, Bruce et al interfere way too much (even at the micro-management level) rather than merely having 'some input'.

Either way, given the poor on-field performance of the club over an extended period, surely we should push for an independent review to establish (amongst other things) exactly what is/has been happening with recruitment and player development and the extent of interference (if any), in addition to determining whether the structure of the board is effective. Maybe an external review can extend to the exploration of further corporate opportunities.

If Gibbs does wish to leave :( and we do end up getting another first rounder (say two picks between 2-6). Then I really hope we don't go for the double dip KPP.
I reckon we're better off going best available. Ie gun mids. Purchase fully developed kpp on the free agent market.

Not sure we'd get a pick straight after our first round pick. More likely to be an end of first round pick IMO.

I'm all for an external review of the club, as I was 2 years ago. The trouble is those who need to make such a decision are most likely among those who will come under scrutiny as a result of such a review. It's the old story, you don't order such a review if you know what it will uncover. You maintain the status quo to protect your power.

What are the odds the boys have a real crack next weekend and make us proud of them?

Well, I'm imagining that the pressure is well-and-truly off now, as most outsiders would now have accepted that we will be bottom 4, if not bottom 2. For the first time in a while, Western Bulldogs will be short-priced favourites. Might just work wonders for us :). Would love to stick it to the Bulldogs, the amount of times they've beaten us when we were clear favourites

Stranger things have happened.

Everybody is talking about the kids and rebuilding but it means little if the seniors players don't have the heart to lead them.

In any case I'm confident that our team is capable of playing much better football then the crap that they are serving up now. Hope we tinker with the gameplan a bit to improve our ball movement since we are unwilling to push forward and take the intiative. I really want us to play on after the mark more often then not.

The players confidence can only improve once they start seeing some positive ball movement and reward for effort.

Please excuse my ignorance on the topic, but, can't some kind of 'Extraordinary General (members') Meeting' compel the club to perform such a review?
