Yarran was our "weapon", Buckley was exciting, Menzel was impactful. Youth is definitely the answer, whether you call it a rebuild or not. We should aim to re-tool significantly and surge again probably late in Murphy's career. It will not be Waite, Judd, Carrazzo, Simpson that take us forward. They cannot improve.

But Bell, Cripps, Curnow, Menzel, Buckley, Yarran, Henderson, etc can!

Reckon Lucas could sneak on to the back end of that list on last two weeks effort.

Lucas played very well the last two weeks, imo he will get better with more game times and will prosper with this style of fast moving game. Less time to think, less time to try for perfect kick etc... Same with Yarrans, Garletts and Casbouts etc...

I had Lucas in my top 5 against WCE. Played a brilliant game IMO. Ran both ways, provided alot of run through the centre and his decision making and disposal was pretty good. Could become our Isaac Smith.

You knew that a player with Sugar's endurance would still be running strong at the end of the game. Was still running hard against WC at Subi last year.

There would be a lot of ranting if Pendlebury had won the clearance and evaded tacklers before having the poise to find the free man. I've been waiting for Lucas to show his speed and agility in traffic.

Hopefully Saturday was the turning point for him, great reading of the play throughout the day, and reading that tap from Warnock whilst on the move and weaving through traffic to get the ball to Buckley was fantastic.

I'm interested to discuss the perceived average work ethic. I can't get my head around that claim.

Lucas is one of if not the best gut runner at the club. He's clearly the best on the spread at the club, IMO, and he's often still motoring on as games draw to a close.

Lucas has shown enough since he has been back that he really should be a regular in our 22 for the majority of the season.
Just the coolness under pressure to get that handball to Bucks was clinical.

Sure he has aspects of his game he needs to work on, but it's baby steps with Kane in the short term.

Why has he been a fringe player his whole career then? He did get poorly managed in his early years, but he's been around for some time now.

He's a skinny pretty boy...spectators see him get pushed over as a young'un and make their minds up.

Posted on twitter the other regarding his tackle stats and someone replied with "half tackles and attempts don't count" and brushed it aside...went back and watched his game against the Bulldogs closer and he actually stuck 90% of them.

Our so called tough guys in Tuohy and White miss plenty more tackles. Admittedly they do well in other aspects. [/made scathing assessment of players, braces for A_McKay]

I think the issue with Lucas is just his lack of physicality. The running may be due to his awkward looking running style now, not really sure he definitely doesn't lack effort.

Lucas must stay in the side for the remainder of the year, he has grown in confidence every game he has played. Has a few things to work on, but he will be right. The camaraderie amongst the young guys with Lucas, Menzel, Buckley and Graham is exciting to see

How about GAJ blind turning nobody and snapping a goal from 30m out making no.1 on the AFL's weekly top 10 in a week with so many highlights? Wasn't even in a crucial stage of their match.
