From the little I have seen & heard, Peter Wright seems like an inbetweener to me. He wants to play ruck (he said in an interview) but has to play forward given his team has too many rucks. Whilst he is big & strong and therefore out bodies his opponents at the moment, he doesn't come across as a pure KPF. I think we need to pick a pure KPF or KPD. Not another in-between type.
yep sounds like the next Josh Fraser/Matthew Kruezar to me.. Would rather steer clear.

Judd brings out the best in those around him and I think there's a correlation in the number of players having dropped in form this year without having benefited from the influence of Judd. We really need him to go on one more year and stay on the park as much as possible to influence those around him.

I agree with you CB, but I have a bad feeling that Juddy will retire 1-2 years before his true expiry date. When he goes, everyone will be saying 'but he was still good enough to go round again'. He won't finish his career in and out of the team for an extended period. Well, that's my feeling.

(not saying this is a definitive sign) but he signed his one-year extension in May last year...

Just in case anyone had ambitions of securing Nat Fyffe through FA at the end of the season, he has just re-signed with the Dockers for a further three years.

Interesting

I hate to say this, but Kingy ,made a good point about FA last night.

Top teams can re-sign their stars, for less years, than the bottom teams. And he's right

Fyfe - 3 years. Freo flying
Gibbs - 5 years - I don't want to talk about it

Yarran - 2 years. We're back!

the way the game is being played helter skelter back and forth...less is more anyway. Hinkley is just another Lyon or Roos - depreciating the long term value of the player by insisting that they run twice as much twice as fast as the opposition - week in week out...at best you get 2-3 years out of this strategy and even then you have to be able to top up talent ...after 3 years your list is dead men walking ...

See St Kilda. Take out the once in a generation bunch of super stars at Geelong including sensational father son flukolas...or the ShitneyCOLA BS which gave Shitney a perpetual salary cap advantage - and these 'strategies of helter skelter are the same as ...

pump and dump market strategies.

Fyfe wasn't a FA agent.

Mate, Fyfe wasn't a free agent. He was never leaving wa.

ok, but the premise stands - he no doubt had multiple clubs throw huge deals at him, and no doubt for longer than 3 years

Probably.

But he would of ran the risk of trying to get those clubs to satisfy Fremantle through trade, which was never going to happen given how important he is to them.

And he's a WA boy who wanted to stay in WA vs Gibbs who was a FA living in Victoria when he had the opportunity to go home.

King's theory will combust when Mundy decides to come home to Victoria.

But he'll go to a top team - that's his point. The richer getting richer, often for less

The Bulldogs(for example) could offer him a 5 year deal, whilst the Hawks offer him say, a 3 year deal

Where do you reckon he'd go?

That's not what you originally said. You said poorer teams have to sign players on longer deal to keep them. Which I disagree with. Why would you want to stay LONGER at a crappy team?

The rich getting richer I agree with. But that's different to what you said King said.

OK Do you think Bryce would have stayed for a 3 year deal then?
No idea. But I don't think his decision would've been based on our ladder position. He obviously wanted to stay inspite of our ladder position. Players want long term security when they get to Bryce's age. If Adelaide were offering a long term deal and are higher on the ladder, why didn't he go there? We offered less money too.

Adelaide are "higher on the ladder" sure, but they're hardly a top team.

we'll agree to disagree :)

But you do have to say their list looks in better shape than ours? Sloane, Dangerfield, Talia, walker, Jenkins, Jacobs, crouch etc - all in the right age group.

If he is good enough and thinks that he can contribute to Hawk for a chance of Premiership then Hawks.
But that's the beauty of FA, it'd give seniors player a chance to earn extra cash and move to club of choice for success.

Why would Mundy move from Dockers to Bulldogs with their "tragic history" ?:p

And Hughes rated him as the best tall in the draft

Butcher was exceptionally highly rated as a junior and was, from memory, considered for most of the year leading up to his draft a chance of being taken at pick 1.

Hughes probably did rate him as the best tall in the draft...and I reckon most if not all recruiting managers would have agreed with him.

WH has copped his fair share of criticism but that's well and truly a step too far.
