I'd be very surprised if they find anyone who fits that criteria and is genuinely AFL standard. Unless they're bringing in athletes from other sports...

How have those Football Superstar winners worked out by the way? :D

Barely. Began playing for Geelong's VFL side in 2007, prior to his 21st birthday, and was drafted by Geelong at the end of the 2007 season.

I don't disagree with your premise. The best chance might actually be for a Tassie or NSW/Queensland boy who was just overlooked at the draft and is a known name to recruiters but stayed at home instead of moving to the big leagues. Dayne Zorko style.

On that note, does anyone have any ideas as to someone who might fit the bill?

Whoever gets nominated is going to get mocked no doubt on here but one name that jumps out at me is Kaine Stevens. Was part of the Giants under 18 squad when they played int he TAC cup but got cut before the AFL squad was finalised. Playing for Queyenbeyan in the NEAFL he racks up good numbers and quality ball use against the Ressies teams of the AFL clubs including damaging us in their win in the NEAFL Grand Final last year. He was also named as best afield in this years NEAFL last V Tassie game despite the NEAFL suffering a decent loss.

I doubt a NEAFL east player will get drafted normally and Stevens really should move to the VFL or SANFL but he's aname that comes to mind.

Another name that scouts were discussing at the end of 2012 was Jaye Bowden from Glenochy in Tassie. I dont know about his 2013 but in 2012 he was given a state screening nomination.

Under the criteria the winner will be an additional rookie who is outside the playing list.

So a club doesn't have to give up a list spot.

It will create no issues for list amangement.

I am more interested in how its decided which club can rookie the player.

Dean Rampe was playing NEAFL this time last year.

It can happen.

I might watch it just to see Fev in a wig trying to get back on a list :p

No, no, my name is Mr.... Alovef

I'd imagine they'd get on a list as a category 2 rookie, will probably never get a game. But there might actually be some decent players applying. Might find a half decent small forward or ruckman.

If it's a goalkicking comp Sonny Whiting from Tassie might be a shout.

Will be interesting to see how they conduct it. I doubt I'll watch it, but I'll be interested in the outcome (in terms of which players it is and where he's from). Should allow international blokes to apply too.

I'll watch it. But being an Eddie Maguire thing it will probably be crap. Three players can be drafted from the TV Show. The question is who is going to draft them? Collingwood?

If it were on FTA, I'd definitely tune in. You'd reckon the winner would almost certainly go to the Giants for marketing/exposure. Or maybe not 'certainly', without the influence of the master of wild and wacky ideas that is Kevin John Sheedy. Would be interesting nonetheless observing their progress through the elite system.
