Reality, or alternative, talent searches brought Tom Rogic to the Socceroos.

No reason some kid can't make it to AFL via this route.

The rest of the series will be more interesting. Actually seeing how they train them to get to an AFL standard.

Curious; if the winner can be a Cat B rookie, could potentially any of the losers be taken the same way?

The Jackal is a ripper.
Seen him play some unbelievable games last season.
He's so fast it's ridiculous.
Is he in the Ballarat Footy league? That was a Darley jumper he was wearing yeah?

He's in the Commonwealth Games track team in the 400m from memory. He was also wearing a Perth Demons jumper (he's played 1 reserves game).

Interesting story if nothing else.

He races for New Zealand not Australia, his from Auckland. Not quite good enough for the aussie 400m team.

I thought more would have been made of the unselfishness of the guys who helped Waylon over the line in the brick challenge. Voss almost chastised them for it.

That ranga who 'helped'him out came across as someone who knew he couldnt make a good fist of the run so decided to 'help'out.

Good old reality tv, dont pick the best players, pick a wide range of personalities and stories.

Rules for top 12 (13)
1. Must be at least one aboriginal player (even though he is super unfit and doesnt have the work ethic)
2. Pick a player from a different sport (the basketballer)
3. Pick the funny guy (even though he is no where near fit enough to make it)

The rest an be made up of players with ability.
Don't understand what they based their decision on to keep Waylan ahead of four other people that he finished behind in the first challenge. They hadn't seen any of them kick a footy at that point, it makes no sense whatsoever. I'm done.

Oh yeah?
So he was drafted as an 18 year old was he?

He didnt make it in the first place...so why would a club want him.
That is word for word what you said.
He earned his spot, we went back and made it.

It's a great scam ...i don't feel like running this silly race ...wait...i'll hold back and pretend to help the struggler.

Perhaps. Maybe I'm just a bit naïve.

haha, they are going to Dhurringile prison and they're going to play it up like the inmates are hardened crims.

Most of the blokes in there have been used as umpires for local leagues for years.
I played for Murch back in the day and we had prisoners from Dhurringile playing for us. It's a minimum security holiday farm. Blokes sometimes used to escape after games and run to the river and then try and hide in the bush.

From memory i saw a guy there who was 31. He probably wont win it but seriously why is a 31 year old even considered for a show like this?

And then the reason for cutting him was "at 31 I don't see you being drafted".

I like how they just glossed over the fact that that Johan bloke apparently kicked eight goals in the match. I guess they don't want to give anything away, but Voss said he's kicked three early on in their match, then later on in the show one of the other recruits briefly mentions he kicked eight, but that's all that was said about it I'm pretty sure.

Still a cool show. It got a little bit too Waylan focused, but he won't win the thing anyway.

Just watched it online and can see some talent there. The recruit who stood out to me most early was Daniel Johncock, not only the skills side of his game but mentally as well. Went down with the injury which unfortunately could do against him later in the show and the coaches seemed to not like how he was carrying on about the injury.

I've seen a bit of Tyrone Armitage in Sydney AFL this year, very strongly built inside player. Good chance to go far in he competition and is rated highly in Sydney AFL.

Waylan Manson unfortunately won't last the distance I think. Natural ability to play the game is there but mentally seems pretty weak

I'll give this show a go, I haven't watched it yet but at the very least it gives us fans a little insight into what is required to make it as an AFL player. Footy Fourth Estate board perhaps?
