Ben Dixon loves himself to death and always thinks he's the "cool" guy. Nah.
At the start when he was pumping himself up and the blokes where having a chuckle....

I thought he was believing what he was saying and was being serious

Haha yeh, the boys thought he was joking when he was saying shit like "I was an immortal to my teammates" but he was being completely serious. Bit awkward haha

Unless something drastically changes, Waylan won't make it. He can have all the talent in the world but he obviously has attitude problems and the heart the size of a pea.

I like the look of Wagner and The Jackel though

what the hell is with that advert for the army reserve stuck in the middle of the player bios on that site?

was going to have a bit of a look but i'm pretty god damn sick of seeing that kind of support for military recruitment -

'oh you tough young men, can't quite crack it at footy? come enlist and murder some darkies in another country'

Yep, just like Jurrah. Won't hack it in a professional AFL environment.

That hutchinson dude looks class
Is that the first time that sentence has been written on Bigfooty?

I don't think there was anything in the first episode that showed he lacked heart, he just severely lacked fitness. Hardly surprising given the environment he's coming from. He comes from a pretty inhospitable environment, a league where fitness is not really required and there is no gym he can visit.

On the run he did say he wanted to quit at each milestone but the key thing is that he didn't. He just kept pushing on.

Homesickness and fitness will be his issue. Living in Melbourne is an entirely different world. The character building nature of the competition will be good for him if he sticks it out.

Wagner was back playing SANFL about 6 weeks ago, so I don't think he wins it if the winner is announced 'live'
The winner is announced live in 10 weeks, and not a fake 'live' like you are insinuating. There is a special draft for it. I've heard a few of the top 13 have been back playing local footy, I'm guessing the show finished filming a while ago and are just waiting for it to air before running the draft.

I would have thought most recruiters know who the standouts are though.

I rarely if ever watch these sorts of reality shows, but I rather enjoyed that first episode. Am worried about all the non-footy stuff coming up, sounds like a heap of filler to me, we'll see how it goes.

Waylan did intimate that the running activity "wasn't footy" to him. Have heard stories of Darryl White feeling similarly when he first arrived at Brisbane, telling Robert Walls that "he came to play footy, not ride bikes!" during a pre-season fitness session, then throwing his bike off a cliff. Credit to Waylan, he persisted on the day and finished the run.

Given that he's had a chance before, and wasn't able to persist, it'll be interesting to see whether he can stay in the game mentally, on and off the field. His endurance is obviously lacking, but the main battle with him will be mental. The psychologist will be crucial during his time on the show.

It'll be really interesting to see how the show ends up. I've seen a lot of Waylen Manson up in Darwin and he is definitely a talent. I attended The Recruit try-outs (I was obviously unsuccessful) and spent a bit of time with Waylen as he was in my group. I wrote about my experiences below for anyone that is interested.

Didn't think they'd allow VFL/SANFL players....i.e Goss and Wagner.

Johann wasn't in the state league when he signed up. Was always a chance to be but when he got on the show he hadn't been signed.

When they made the soccer version of this, the show won most advertising fitted into 42 minutes.
Just absolute rubbish and an advertisers wet dream.

The Army is paying for it.

Thats why there is so much talk about Leadership, Values and personal development. Hell, most AFL novices are called rookie's where im from - a "Recruit" would be more likely to be enlisted into some sort of defence force.

US is all over tactics like this. Pretty much every movie where the US saves the world from Aliens/Meteorites/Chinese/Russian/etc etc is financed by the USDF.

Waiting for Spud and Dunstall to turn up in a future episode and put the recruits through a Yesterday's Heroes challenge.
