Strategically, the best move Padraig could have made was to save Gossy and throwing in one of the best competitors like Johann. With Gossy going Padraig is guaranteed final 6. He could have guaranteed himself final 5 by saving Gossy. Vossy would have had to delist one of his other fit competitors meaning one less person for Padraig to have to beat.

I have no doubt whatsoever that Voss would have still delisted Goss even if he wasn't in the bottom 3. Or he would have been prompted to withdraw.

In reverse of sorts. Dramatic build up where Goss interrupts to withdraw and delist himself. Ultimately, it would have been determined well before the "decision". If he refused, Voss would just delist him prior like Hutchy.

I think that's a long bow. Didn't he say he'd never done any rowing (which he won), maybe could have been expected to go well in the swimming (didn't win) and no reason to think he'd be especially good or bad at the boxing (unless we're thinking he got the softest opponent for that in Foster...not sure who else he could have been matched up on)...he didn't look like he had much technique there; most of the fights degenerated into slapfests, really. I reckon he won that on his own merits.

I don't know much about rowing but I'd think the bigger you are (Padraig is the biggest) that you are going to have a greater advantage if you are competing with a bunch of guys who have never done it before. Of course a Life Guard who works at swimming pools is going to be in the top echelon, which ironically was the challenge that was worth the most points. And yeah he was lined up against the softest bloke in the competition in boxing.

They tried to do the same thing a couple of weeks ago with the physicality challenges on the beach with Mark but he flopped it and didn't win.

Rowing (always favours tall guys, most olympic rowers are 6'3 or taller)
Swimming (Paddy was a pool lifeguard in Ireland)
Boxing vs Bradie (my mum could beat up Bradie)

But still, credit to the guy for taking his opportunity and winning it.

I wish they would show us how he actually goes on the field. He can't be that terrible or he wouldn't be there, and the other guys would be even more disparaging to him than they already are.

6 strong guys who run on average mid 13 beeps it's hardly a surprise they beat 6 cadets when 2 were girls and one seemed a bit older when the challenge was running up and down a hill carrying stuff. As soon as it got a bit more technical with tying some ropes and paddling across a lake the cadets smashed them. So given it wasn't our special forces I'm not too disappointed in them.

Considering it's an army sponsored show they had to make the cadets look good as well!

Which is probably another reason why they had boxing because Brady would be his opponent. Didn't stop them from putting Gossy up against Mark in the sumo challenge though.

They should have football based captain challengers so that the best player can't be eliminated or voted for.

Looking at it from the perspective of who I'd like the Saints to recruit, I'd favour Wagner over Moreland. Maxwell would be a decent pick-up, pass on the others.

based on this http://www.topendsports.com/testing/tests/skinfolds.htm, 61-80 is good and 40-60 is "excellent". If the guys are in the 30-40 range thats either wrong or they are elite. Padrig being 80 isn't that bad really. He didn't look that fat. Maybe a couple of kgs extra but he is a big guy who should be throwing his weight around. I doubt Mumford / Minson would be much lower on the skinfolds.

In the afl 50 is the limit if your over 50 you won't be playing, I don't know why you would think Minson would have a high skinfolds he barely has any fat on him which was shown in a melee last year when he had his jumper ripped off.

It was clear that only a few of the recruits had any idea about swimming whatsoever, which I guess is not too surprising for a Victorian show. (none of the 3 best swimmers were Victorian). If the show was filmed in WA and got similar results I would shake my head.

I'm no expert, but I'm not too sure why we would expect Victorians to be especially worse at those swimming tasks than people from other states. It wasn't like they were attempting anything that was too advanced. Plus Moreland is from the Surf Coast and I believe Semmell is from around the Mornington Peninsula. Water wouldn't exactly be a foreign concept to them.
