How many ruckmen do you have now?
Simpson, McIntosh, Blicavs, Vardy and now Padraig?

I would suggest that Vardy's days of rucking should be over. He should be fighting with Walker for the CHF spot in 2015. Who knows where Blicavs will be playing in two years time?

So that would make three, maybe four on the senior list (once Blicavs is elevated). Pretty standard, I would have thought. With two first rucks as injury-prone as Simpson and McIntosh, our stocks have clearly not been sufficient, the past two years.

So Gossy is on Essendon VFL list (could be playing for Essendon AFL next year depending on this Friday lol)
Padraig at Geelong
Waylen undergoing fitness at Collingwood

What about Hutchy he was considered one of the best key defenders in the NEAFL, if not the best, he should get a look in.

With Mitch Robinson possibly leaving, Carlton need a rugged cult hero turnover merchant to fill the void. Jackel come on down.

Could Semmel be our Nick Duigan replacement?

Senmels full of himself. Do not want.

Absolutely is. Would be fun seeing him get taken down a notch or too though. He does have some grunt and sometimes attitude and belief can be a benefit.

Oh and just to show exactly where Yoey will go if he wins:

Awesome news for the big Irishman. And great for the show.

Although it probably would have been better for the news of his signing with Geelong to be held off until the winner of the show was announced, just because the whole idea was that there would be one winner who signs an AFL contract. Then to have others signed up afterwards would be the bonus.

I assumed it was announced today so then tonight they can parade him out in a Geelong polo and show how much of a success the show has been etc etc

I always assumed that others would get picked up if they could be placed on the cat B rookie list, but the whole point of the show was that the winner would get an AFL contract. If they bring Padraig out, saying he was just signed by Geelong, doesn't that sort of defeat the point of winning? They were all playing for an AFL contract, and the guy who came in 4/5th got the same prize as the overall winner.

I am happy for the club to take the punt on him. Will take quite a bit of time to get him anywhere near AFL level, though.

Yes, they should have waited for the announcement. However, the point still remains that the winner is guaranteed a contract, where as the others have to hope for one. Same as American Idol I guess. Winner gets a contract, losers have to rely on someone wanting to take a punt on them.

Yeah I felt others would get picked up as well, it's the only reason I can think for them announcing it now.. seems to be the way TV works, they can pump up their own tyres and pat themselves on the back because this fella who wasn't even top 3 got picked up

I assume Padraig was eligible for a Cat B Rookie regardless as he is an international, but locals would have to go through the draft process wouldn't they?
Think that's correct.
Pretty sure his Visa was about to run out or something similar anyway.
So announcing it now may just be a matter of coincidental timing in regards to the shows finale.

Maybe that needs to be a clause for the show. If you choose to be on the show where you are already eligible for a Cat B Rookie spot, you are therefore ineligible in the year you're on the show.

Means they have to go through the whole draft process and gives some more merit to the winner.

That is what I thought but some people say that the Players on the Recruit can be CAT B Rookies.

I should probably clarify. He was dominant in his native sport, but from what I've heard from contestants in interviews, as well as those involved in the show, those skills translated well into AFL football.

it would be worth noting that he was mentioned in the top 3 of 4/5 guys in the last part of the competition. More than Brady so it was surprising he got cut to begin with.

Don't Port have to say they want him first? Not really the smartest career move to pick Port though.
What do you mean 'not a smart career move'? We're a young team playing finals with the outlook for premierships being very good. Players look for a team that will be playing games in September.

I don't see port saying no to a cheap 190cm forward.

What I mean is it's going to be pretty much near impossible for him to break into that team.

Not really, we have a smallish forward line and at the moment we're in need of tall forwards. We have a couple in the SANFL not up to standard yet, so there is plenty of opportunities for him to break into the 22 if he shows his worth.
