Ya, I get that.. I am just aware that we have become obsessed with talent identification at a really really young age.. and some guys take a little longer to develop.. hence why the 'expansion clubs' were good in one way.. made clubs look around and see that there are a lot of 22-24 year olds that have now filled out and are 'ready made' AFL players. Not all of them will be guns.. but there is a heap of really good 'depth' players floating around VFL/lower leagues.

Put it this way.. if a club gets a shot at a Cat B rookie.. pays him 45K.. he gets a few games in the VFL.. there isn't really a lot of risk is there?
Lel or we just get them to play for 400 dollars a game for a season in the vfl most of the guys aren't even playing in the 1s

It's a reality tv show. Has any participants from these type of shows gone on to have a successful professional career? No. There are reasons why they fail when the cameras have stopped filming.

Been a few gun soccer players that have broke thru from shows like the recruit could be wrong but a mate at work that is a due hard Liverpool fan said sturridge was on one

Sturridge has been representing England since he was 15. He started off in Aston Villa's youth academy, before signing professionally for Coventry.

Patrick Ambrose and Dan Nicholson disprove your argument.

Fair point. Patrick played some VFL last year.

Both of those players were identified at that level because they were deemed to be good enough for a crack at the AFL via the rookie draft. If players on The Recruit had similar abilities/work ethic etc to Patrick and Nicholson than they would have already been identified.

Nicholson was only drafted a few years ago. The VAFA/equivalent pathway isn't exactly a well-established one, so it's not a fait accompli that anyone in the VAFA who's good enough would be playing VFL.

Good point.

I don't want sound too negative, I hope if they get an opportunity they succeed at the top level.

I think the most likely ones to succeed are the goalsneaks in Goss and Wagner. If you know where the goals are, you know where the goals are and that gives you a massive chance.

Think Moreland is a very unique and interesting one too. Brings a combination of work ethic, desire and grunt that could make him a handy depth player (at best). Has really come into his own in recent weeks.

how many alternate talent rookies can you have? as we already have Rayner we may not have a spot so it wont matter.

Btw they are hamming up the way they treat the players, and that includes Voss

15 goals in 4 games and a hamstring strain to boot

Yoda I had a chat to Dan's (you know who) mum today. He's been invited to the draft camp, the main one. Looks like we'll miss out as someone must rate him in the first 2 rounds. However a DC and Manson double would be great for our list, as well as a back up ruck and KPD, unless we'll get more Pears.

I saw he was nominated for the state combine, represents at least two (?) clubs are interested in seeing his test results.
