List Mgmt. The Reid situation

We do need someone to cover the quick leading agile tall forwards like Buddy, Cameron, Riewoldt. From our list, Goldsack and Frost look like the best candidates. I don't think moving Reid back is the answer for this type of player.

Left field, but I think Toovey could be a chance. Would have been tried on Buddy last night before Shaw.

Very quick, tallish, and a very good spoiler of the ball, not to mention very disciplined.

Goldsack was not quick off the mark last night. Can't ever see him playing on quick agile leading forwards, not on last night's form anyway. Reid has not played well on Franklin before.

I don't think that Toovey is so left field and is an excellent call. He smashes Darling when he plays on him and its generally forgotten that when drafted he was an 18 year old playing full back in the WAAFL seniors.

Think he was FB AA u/18's too?

Frost is a key defence option for those more unique key forwards in Franklin and young Jeremy Cameron. He's one of the quicker key defenders going around so I wouldn't put it past him to play that role.

No need to invest in more key defenders. We have a glut of options. Even if Reid is traded for pick 1.

Why not a 100%, it's not like you don't have access to the internet?

are you serious? You really expect me to type all that into google? man you are so crazy. c r a zy

It is worth remembering that in the past with Reid in defence on Buddy & co the Hawks have cut us to bits & kicked monster scores. So we shouldn't be reacting to the fact that it happened again (less so) and Reid would have stopped it.

Buddy is a freak and a hard match up, Keefe did an OK job. Buddy is horrible overhead but on the ground & on the lead very hard to stop. I thought the best match up for him was actually Goldsack - a bit disappointed they didn't try it at least. With keefe on Hale. I think it was a good education for Keefe. Brown did a good job on Roughy. Where they beat us was with their smalls in Whitecross, Rioli, Smith & co.

Looking forward we need to stick with Reid forward for the rest of the year. Next year they need to assess how ready Paine & Frost are. Frost would be another quality defender that means Reid can be kept forward. Paine if he can develop could play the forward role & let us move Reid back. I think Frost will be ready before Paine.

I am fairly cynical that we are going to waltz out there and land a ready made key forward in the trade period. That is why its essential we develop what we have and the more work we put into Reid as a forward the more flexibility we have next year - especially if we don't magically produce a key forward from no where.

Stray thought;

Delist Jolly, Didak, Krakouer and Lynch at the end of the year... might make enough room for a serious play for Jack Watts? (if available)

Was a rumour that we were hunting Karnezis also..

Interesting thread. I thought Keeffe did pretty well, and his straight line pace is no slower than Buddy.

Got burnt countless times by Buddy just by a single turn. Keeffe literally ended up 5 seconds behind him. I'm worried that opposition teams may figure out his major weakness, because I think it's due to his knee.

We don't need Reid back. But last night we did.

Players like Franklin probably do need Reid's attention. I think the next time we face them, Reid MUST go down back.

In the meantime, we've shown that we can handle most key forward duo's with Brown and Keeffe.
Franklin kicked one goal on keefe one from a goldsack kick in and 2 on shaw when he had a 2 minutes spell on the bench.

He mostly burnt him up the ground.

It's ridiculous, because Keeffe is a perfect matchup on Hale, instead we had Goldsack/Maxwell on him. At least Hale was inaccurate that night.

Whichever one of Maxwell/Goldsack played on Hale in the first quarter was very loose.

Is Frawley unsigned at Melbourne still??? Would be a great pickup if we could somehow manage a deal..

Has another year to run on his contract.

Fanstastic player and would be a superstar in a better team, but I shudder to think what we would have to give up to even tempt Melbourne into giving up of their best player and backline leader. They had the cap space to keep him reasonably happy imo.
