Demetriou owned that segment.

Sounds like a bit of a blow up at our end more than anything. Rendell refusing to back down, or to apologise for something given that he didn't feel he did anything wrong.

Trigg on the other hand who can't stand the thought of a player having a beer in public because it would tarnish the reputation of the club has a fairly low threshold for controversy.

Decision made.

Did Demetriou have anything to do with Vince's punishment? Did he lose our No 1 ruckman over a 15 minute curfew violation? I guess in hindsight we're quite capable of over-reacting without anyone's help.

Only saw a couple of minutes but didn't Sheehan ask if Rendell would be allowed back and Vlad said something along the lines that if he could show he changed his views then he might be allowed back. Well if he didn't demand that he go why can't he come back when he wants? Or did I misread it?

Even if Vlad had no hand in Rendell leaving, how would people react if Rendell was still employed by our club?

It would be a PR disaster/nightmare.

Now we have to wait and see the context of this quote, Robbo has put up his theory, but none of us know untill Rendell explains it. Hopefully in the same manner he did to Trigg, so we can know if our club did the right thing.

And if the context or quote is incorrect Misfaud has some explaining to do.......because the way he seems to have explained it to Vlad is painting his mate (Rendell) in a bad light.

The whole thing about refusing to back down rings true though - Rendell strikes me as the sort who doesn't take instructions from anyone and believes wholeheartedly in what he does. Those are good qualities in some ways but can make it difficult to say so-so-sorry.

Sheehan's effort was pathetic on the couch. Didn't ask Demetriou about his radio comments where he said he knew who the person was and he'd advise them to think about a career change despite Demetriou saying he had nothing to do with Rendell resigning.

Matty shouldn't have had to back down. Because the context of what he said hasn't changed. He still said what he said as a way of getting a point accross to the AFL. "The way things are going, it's going to get to the point where.....insert out of context quote".

I'm pissed at how Trigg handled the Bernie situation, but with this quote being launched into the media in isolation, and AD hounding the media with his "pack his bags" comments, inaction by the club would have been a PR disaster. Of course.....Rendell 'resigned'.......

Trigg has made mistakes, but c'mon.

You know maybe Triggy doesnt make all the right decisions, and believe me he's had me scratching my head in this past week, but there is one think that you cant deny and this is that the AFC is regarded as one of the most professionally run clubs in the league. That in itself says that he must be doing something right.

I will reserve my judgement now until we hear what Matt has to say, but really I can't see him bad mouthing anyone.

Cynicism aside. If ADs 'version' of events is so I'd be mighty displeased. However at this stage I think that version unlikely.

One thing that has taken me a bit by surprise is the amount of support for Rendell from the football community. Often people distance themselves from someone who has made a bad political blunder. It's been the other way around. Rendell has some allies out there and the football community don't like that a respected servant of the game has been hounded out of it.

After the interview tonight we'll know one of three things:
1) Rendell believes the drafting percentages are in your favour if you draft indigenous footballers who have one white parent
2) The AFL was outraged by the comments and insigated his dismissal
or 3) Trigg and the AFC didn't like the bad PR and refused to stand by their man

Whether it is 2 or 3, either Demetriou or Trigg are going to cop a fair bit of criticism. They have effectively pulled the trigger on a respected football person's career for teh sake of avoiding a touchy topic.

Or it's 1. And part of me thinks this may be a possibility. Rendell would have crunched teh numbers. He'd have his own rules of thumb that he has developed over time. In his mind he may simply be telling the truth and (in his mind) why should he have to apologise for that?

Can't wait for Footy Classified.

Dimwitrio says he didn't demand rendells head. That Trigg spoke to misfud then rendell and asked matty to go away for a couple of hours and come back at which time he resigned. I call bullshit!

Agree Jenny. AD comes across as an arrogant pompous....can't say what id like to say about him.

A mate of mine call me re Vlad being on the couch. Crux of Vlads comments are he had nothing to do with Rendell's sacking...apparently he left if up to Trigg.
Also the comment Rendell made was as reported by Wall-e.

Vlad is full of shit, is he telling us that a topic as big as racism surfaces and he had no input.........BULLSHIT.
