You're arguing a different argument that FF.
FF wants each country to focus on producing goods that they have a comparitive in. That means no car industry and outsourced IT and the end of a heap of other industries.
If the world was to do what FF wants them to do, it won't work.
This is such a poor summary of what I think I don't know where to start. OUr industries will do whatever the economic ebbs and flows of free trade encourage them to do, which is pretty much the same as what happens now. Look at the Kodak plant closing, ok that is due to the digital revolution I think, but that is just businesses following the path to maximum profit. That IMO is what businesses do best and should be encouraged to do.
Anyway, not only do I have Medders on side for a change (or actually would be truer to say Medders has me on side because this is a deviation from typically lefty thought I admit, but reasonably in line with what I would have thought Medders would think), but I also have this guy:

Annan says rich nations must tackle poverty for peace
United Nations secretary-general Kofi Annan has warned the world's richer nations they will have to do more to tackle poverty if they want to live in peace and security.
Speaking in Dublin in the Irish Republic, Mr Annan said the developed nations had to live up to their promises on aid, debt relief, and FAIR TRADE..
Sorry, was that a major world leader saying that TRADE can lead to PEACE... Fool.
Sadly I assume you already hate the UN so it may not carry much weight.
