Cat 1 will suck on infrastructure not prepared for it like Brisbane. There's going to be a massive number of power outages with trees coming down and substantial flooding, but the latter is really just because Brisbane's so prone to it.

Cat 2 is bad even up in FNQ. People are generally fine but don't take it lightly and usually plenty of property damage (well, some do take it lightly but they're idiots).

Very happy it's not going to be touching Cat 3.

Whilst the wind does a lot of instant damage it's the rain that really does the most. Floods destroy houses, roads, bridges, etc. I know you guys up there know all that, but a bit less wind won't change the rainfall I wouldn't imagine. Might make it worse as the storm slows down. Either way going to start doing some fund rasing for you all, best way I can help.

It also depends on where you live. People in flood zones or low lying areas would have feared the floods more than the actual cyclone wind impact. while those in higher areas and away from the flood zones would have had the opposing fear. Let's just hope for the best and that it's able to weaken so none of the worst case scenarios end up happening

Sorry for the intrusion but I live in a low lying area and I do not fear the floods more. It was scheduled to be hard trash night on Monday and people still have some stuff out despite it being rescheduled.

So what I fear most is human stupidity. Then daylight. Then the floods.

Original predictions to start the week had it impacting in around [emoji6[emoji640][emoji637]]-[emoji6[emoji640][emoji638]] hours from now. We have been very lucky to see it both delayed and failing to develop in intensity like it very well could have due to the delay. Don’t think it’s been that much of a blow up when media were simply working with the exact same information we had days ago.

Storm surge, then human stupidity, then daylight before wind or rain. Gotta watch out for the storm surge.

For Yasi I brought my bins into the living room. No projectiles there.

I really feel like people who are in denial or don't think it'll be bad are in a bit of a rude shock if the wind speeds get anything close to what they're predicting.

From my experience, in general, Victoria & Melbourne are a lot windier than SEQ, maybe the hinterland has a bit to do with that. The southerlies & westerlies can really howl through in Vic. I had the odd day walking through the city going to QUT Gardens Point, where the wind howled and it was a little gnarly, but nothing compared to what you get in Melbourne.

I remember we had a relentless week of howling winds early September last year. I doubt they got much worse than 40 to 45kts gusting. But that is still damn windy, it's emotionally draining to be honest, having day after day of that. We had planes damaged, & hangars damaged. If you're getting wind gusts of 50 to 60kts, you're going to know about it. It's not pleasant.

By all accounts the wind speeds are decreasing quite rapidly. The shock has to come from the flooding. Brisbane is forecasted to have double the rainfalls in 24 hours than what it got back in February 2022. The largest recorded rainfall in 24 hours was in 1887, and that could possibly be broken as well.

I thought the anticipating of the grand final week was stressful. That was nothing.

Just want it to happen and be done and get on with picking up the pieces.

Northern nsw. Wow. Poor bloody bastards. Wonder if it lands between Brisbane to sunshine coast if it helps them.
