If Richmond defeats St Kilda on Easter Monday, it will achieve something it hasn't done since the early 1940s - it will win its fourth Round 3 match in-a-row.
And, historically speaking, the Tigers should win. On the 10 occasions Richmond and St Kilda have met in Round 3 history, the Tigers have only ever lost once.
The history of these two clubs’ meetings dates back to July 17, 1886, when St Kilda beat Richmond by two goals.
And, since then, these two teams have had some remarkable moments, in particular when it comes to goalkicking . . .
• 1922: St Kilda’s Dave McNamara kicks 1 goal 13 behinds.
• 1927: St Kilda’s Jack Shelton kicks 1 goal 10 behinds.
• 1940: Star Tiger spearhead Jack Titus kicks 9 goals straight.
• 1945: Richmond’s Fred Burge kicks 7 goals.
• 1951: Jack O'Rourke kicks 7 goals for the Tigers.
• 1961: Richmond is held goalless by St Kilda for the entire match -- the last VFL/AFL team to suffer this fate.
• 1972: Tiger full-forward Ricky McLean kicks 8 goals, 2 behinds.
• 1979: Star Richmond spearhead Michael Roach kicks 10 goals, 2 behinds.
• 1980: Michael Roach kicks 10 goals, 4 behinds.
• 1981: Richmond wins on the last kick of the day with Paul Sarah kicking a goal after the siren in the clash at Moorabbin.
• 1982: Tiger ruckman Mark Lee kicks 9 goals, 2 behinds in a forward role.
• 1984: Brian Taylor kicks 7 goals, 2 behinds for the Tigers.
• 1993: Matthew Richardson kicks 8 goals, 1 behind.
Also, some famous Richmond names have debuted against St Kilda:
1946: Roy Wright
1960: Jack Dyer junior
1965: Kevin Bartlett
1977: Bruce Tempany
1987: Tony Free
1993: Matthew Richardson and Duncan Kellaway
Some Tigers turned Saints: Billy Barrot, Rex Hunt, Graeme Bond, Mike Patterson, Tony Jewell.
Some Saints turned Tigers: Ian Stewart, Stephen Rae, Daryl Cowie, Tom Crebbin, Jeff Dunne, Horace Bannister, Danny Frawley.
