No TigerTank, I deliberately left out an "undecided" option, that is too easy a cop out, I prefer to see people face difficult issues, and work through them.
This is a highly emotive topic, which doesn't have a "correct" answer, only answers in which an individual finds comfort and solace.

I think a more interesting poll would be do you think its appropriate for a bunch of right to life protesters to return to the scene of the shooting for a silent vigil this morning?

I agree with Bracksy on this one.

How bout the young girls 15-18 yrs old that get pregnant and cannot possibly raise a child???

Does the newborn deserve to be shifted from foster house - to house and most propably grow up and become a druggie???

I can't believe they did that.

Why is it that we only ever read of 'right to life' people pulling out guns and killing people? Is it because most of them have no idea of reality and are just fanatical imbeciles?
I have always admired people who stand up for their beliefs, but when that becomes a fanatical belief it then becomes very very dangerous.

Careful QT, it takes more than being raised in foster homes to become a drug user. Not all foster parents are derelict in their duties.
Remember that by societies standards, quite a number of normal people are 'druggies.

Tough one, though in this situation, she could always give the child up for adoption. I have several friends who were adopted and are well-balanced, fun-loving people.

But at least, they will have a chance to be alive and could well lead a productive life.

For the record, I voted yes it's a woman's right but personally I am against abortion and would try to persuade my wife/partner/friend to think other options (such as adoption) if I was ever in the situation.
But in the end, I believe it's up to the woman to decide. If the Government bans abortions they will still occur just illegally and by using unsafe practices.

I think abortion is a sad and terrible thing that should never be treated lightly but I also recognise that there would be times when it is justified and in the best interests of all concerned.

I respect and appreciate both sides of this argument so I would still abstain.

For the record...i voted the 2nd option.

In my opinion...and remember this is myopinion a woman should only have a right to an abortion if she has been sexually assaulted.

If a woman is old enough to have sex and understands the consequences of sexual intercourse she should be held accountable for her own pregnancy. Yes these may seem like harsh words an i know that the majority of you are not going to agree with me. If a couple, the woman in particular, choose not to demonstrate safe-sex practices and the woman falls pregnant...it is of her own doing. Remember...if there were any doubt...there is always the morning after pill.

I believe that contraception is both a male and female issue. However...in the end...it falls to the female to ensure that safe sex is adhered to. Like it or not...that is the way it is.

I've only just scraped the issue here...and i haven't dulged into the physiology.

I had this arguement with my cousin last week over this very same issue. I had to laugh at his level of intellegence in the end. He compared the abortion to killing bacteria from a bench (with a disinfectant). He said that they are both cells and contain genetic material...so an 'intervention' to distroy both must be one of the same!!! To this i LMFAO!!!!!! :D:D

Yes

It's a woman's body and she has the right to decide.

All the moral arguments can't really get past this idea as how does anyone have the right to tell someone how to deal with their own body.

I realise it then gets into when does the foetus become a person but that is for the medical people and I don't have expertise in that area.

This is one area where we wouldn't know what we would do until it actually happens to us.

Santos - There are many right to life people who don't agree with violence - most of htem I would have thought

I don't agree with them but if they don't resort to violence then they are entitled to their opinions and their vigils

The people in questions have codemmed the murder already.

I don't if there's ever been a poll on abortion which has been divided into categories, such as gender, age group, etc.
If would be interesting to see the different views not only between different age groups but between the sexes.

Women may have a different perspective to men when it comes to issues such as abortion, childbirth and pregnancy, since a woman is the one who's directed affected by these issues. Pregnancy (another being in your body during pregnancy, biological changes to women's body, etc.) is something which men never directly experience and men never have to go through childbirth so maybe there's a general difference between the sexes when it comes to this issue.

I voted yes. I believe that people should have the right to decide what is best for them. I am not saying I am pro-abortion, personally I would never do it, but that is beside the point. The question here is, should people have the RIGHT to have an abortion, and the only answer I can see is yes.

Controversial topic.

I voted yes hesitantly.

A woan unless under force (such as rape), knows what shes getting into and should know about the precautions. (conddoms, pill, etc.)

But if a woman does fall pregnant, she should still have the right to have an abortion, because if she doesnt want a baby, it may become a street kid, or the taxpayers may have to pay for a child, which we don't have because someone didnt take the precautions. I think i should stop here, because i can get passionate on issues involving welfar payments, and so on and so forth. lol

:p

Absolutely each individual shoud have the right of choice..... although personally i dont think i would agree for my partner to ever contemplate an abortion, i respect the right of others in different circumstances to myself to make there own moral judgements

A more pertinent question may be, does the father of the embryo deserve an equal say in whether an abortion goes ahead? What rights the father v the mother?

I have a big problem with abortion on demand. If someone is looking at an abortion they should be counselled and explained all other options before it takes place.

I have an even bigger problem with people saying "it's their right". Rights carry with them some responsibilities.

If someone has no choice or are not responsible for their pregnancy (rape, incest, etc.), or are too young or mentally unwell to be truly responsible for that outcome, then abortion should be an option. Likewise if the health of the mother is at serious risk.

But I have grave misgivings about people having abortions because it (pregnancy) 'just doesn't suit them' - the person or persons concerned should have thought about that beforehand.

I had decided that I would leave this topic alone as it is not really our place to make judgements on what is a personal decision for a
woman. However  I had to address a couple of issues raised by Bomberboy.

A woan, I guess you mean woman, does not have the sole responsibility for birth control. You say that it's up to her to make sure all precautions are taken, but surely the male must take this responsibility too? Why should males just expect a female to, not only, take the pill (and all it's different side effects) and buy condoms for her partner? This is a problem I see with our society in general that women are expected to 'make sure' they're prepared and if they're not, well then it's their own fault. The condom is the easiest and most convenient of all contraception methods (except abstinence) yet males are still loathe to take any responsibility for their actions.

I agree that a woman should have the right to an abortion, but your reasons seem to be based on right wing doctrine. If all your worried about is that children become welfare dependants or drains then I think you need to realise that any children on the streets need all the help they can get, not to have people trying to take any assistance away from them. You even say that these kids may end up on the street in a sympathetic tone, but then take the hard line by saying as long as your taxes don't make up a part of any assistance to them.
I am a bit concerned that you end a serious discussion with lol and that little 'tounge out' smilie face. It seems to just make everything you said inconsequential.
