It's a 3.20 start in Perth. Both Carlton and Melbourne games are 3.20pm starts with work days the following day. Weird manipulation of start times your using. Local time is the only time reference that is relevant.

I don’t think they are even top 8 for average weekly viewership so far this year (outside of Anzac Day).
What’s your point, that’s the time slot they are giving us over here. Doesn’t change anything, it’s still the worst one.
Freo have played 6/9 games on Sunday with 3 the last game on Sunday. Add in next week and it’s 7/10 & 4 late slots. So not exactly fair considering the “new” rolling fixture is making it worse.
Friday night games are earlier too and hard to get to without leaving work early, not that we have to worry about that time slot much.
You wrote that Collingwoods Sunday games are all early slots while Fremantle get all late slots. Are you arguing for TV or for attendance.
The simple fact a game starting in Melbourne at 3.20pm has the same effect on supporters attending as a 3.20pm wa time has on supporters in Perth attending.
As for TV the later in the day it is better for overall viewer numbers.

Of course the counter argument is that if <insert any small shitty club's name here> was handed the exposure that an Essendon, Richmond or Collingwood get, they would actually be able to build a large supporter and sponsor base.
But for the AFL, their current model works and is why St Kilda, Gold Coast, North, Bulldogs etc. can exist. So why change it? And also, it would take years for these clubs to even get close to the big clubs.
The catch is that it compromises the comp to a large degree. That's the trade off.

I don't think the 'lack of exposure' thing exists, at least for vic clubs. They've been around for 100+ years, everyone knows them. Being on TV doesn't correlate into money direct to the clubs.
The reason those clubs have struggled is historically poor game attendance and membership. Coupled with some shocking off field management. The docklands stadium thing was a bad deal, but its not like the smaller clubs were getting 40k to every game either.
For the smaller clubs to survive, afl money is needed. And for the afl to get the money, they need to leverage the TV rights deals. The only way the programming of the popular games over the better games will happen, is if people stop watching. But as long as they'll get 500k essendon supporters instead of 300k stkilda supporters, that won't happen.

In fairness that’s the second Friday game so it’s getting shoved onto Fox + Optus was unavailable for the Sunday arvo spot due to State of Origin.
I just stated the current completed games & how fair they are, you got angry about kids being mentioned and have moved into some other agenda. You’re clearly not in a good mood after Fridays game.

I just don’t buy that. Ratings each week would not be dominated by a certain clubs supporters. By far and away the most viewing eyes on a Friday or Saturday night will come from the general footy public who just want to watch a good game.
Australia is not Italy where half the country supports Juve.

Even though it was scheduled in before the season started, and leading up to the game the Adelaide v Port Showdown on a Friday was looking a stinker based on form but it turned out as another classic match but the fact that they couldn't even give the very first Fri Night Showdown it's own free air and had another game on at the same time totally sums up how much the broadcast arrangements stink
What is this Helen Lovejoy narrative about children and attending football games?
I think little Johnny will still be ok to do finger painting if he gets home from the footy at 8:00 o'clock on Sunday night.

Rich opened the season with 5 consec FTA games and of 9 games, only 2 not on FTA and 4 upcoming incl consec Fri/Thurs/Thurs based on the variable fixturing after not even being in the 8 until now
StKilda has had 5 of 9 and 4 to come after being top 6 most of the season
Essendon for giggles 7 of 9 and 3 consec Fri night games upcoming and they've won 2 games.....
why would a sponsor pick StKilda ahead of the other 2 clubs and you don't think that has any impact?

why would a sponsor pick stkilda with an average attendance of 25k over richmond with an average attendance of 48k, or essendon with an average attendance of 41k? additionally why would a broadcaster agree to pay the same to show a club like stkilda when they can estimate there may be 50% less market interest.
if clubs like stkilda want to be given primetime games more often, then they need to give up the millions in extra assistance funding they get, which the afl only gets because they can get the biggest broadcast deals by selling the games with the biggest market share. if you want an even playing field then no more handouts.
but i know youre not going to accept that, so just shush while the big clubs earn the money that keeps the smaller clubs solvent.
That's literally what it comes down to.
Those that would rather cut the cash handouts, and cut the fixturing and exposure handouts - are wishing a death knell on their club.
In the time it would take a St Kilda to attract the additional 100,000 supporters they would need to be as financially viable as Richmond, even with Friday night footy every single week for a decade, they'd be broke 10 times over.

It's mainly the media that pumps up their tires or slashes them down so frequently. The media treats Essendon as black and whites and never a shade of gray. This gets people interested so they watch their games and this causes media reports and the cycle repeats.
Just look at how quickly the the media shifted their takes on Essendon between last week and this week.
