Where do you have is finishing exactly, this season? This us always a good game to play.

I usually go with 4th-6th and I reckon you are usually more 10th-12th. On the money 2023 but a big miss the other seasons.
Usually I have us 6-12. Every year I am guilty of not seeing us as a top 4. Still would like to assess after each team has had a bye, after 4-5 games, but right now, I definitely see us as outside top 4, yet again. Easy to get sucked in by early season excellence of GC and Dogs, but they are stacked with talent and form. Missing both Rowell and Petracca for a while might hurt. Dogs would struggle without Bont as we saw last year iirc.

We will finish bottom of the ladder but be rewarded with pick #1 + Butters as an RFA (because Port will need to take the compo or we will walk him to the PSD)... and then be a bit more set for the future.

A 7 spot range is quite wide. If I had that many spots I'd probably go with 2nd-8th in the lead up to most Scott seasons, because we finish top 2 a lot more than we miss finals (however unlikely it seems during each pre-season), while top-4 is "the norm". This is emotion-free and just playing the numbers. Of course trends can change but I imagine some people have tried to front run that prediction 15 seasons in a row and only twice would they have been close to accurate (2015 and 2023).

Who thinks that if we are struggling to make top 10, HYPOTHETICALLY, that this would be a good outcome?
Honest replies here.
Methinks yes, and in over 60 years supporting us, can not recall a single bottom finish. We never tank- but would Butters think that we had a future if we were bottom?

But I always must play us down, whether realistic or not- the ONLY season I backed us top 2 was after the 07 GF. Really thought we were just so far ahead in talent - but that was somewhat tempered by Nathan Ablett's retirement.

If I was offered 10th or last with Butters coming as a FA right now, I'd take the spoon... but that's just my style and I'd understand people hating that idea.

I will say I mentioned the spoon thing and it being a way to force Port to let Butters go to us as a FA because it's something that I'd been thinking about.... Prob could have taken it to the trade thread but didn't.

The other angle I think could work in our favour (and it is very long odds) is a team like the Dons or the Tigers finishing bottom and them getting into Butters ear and us + Butters team using one of those otehr Vic options as a way for Port to let him go as a FA.

Like a bluff in some way.

Butters is half keen to go to the Dons on way more money than Geelong so if you match Geelong's bid, he is gonna have a serious think about going to the Dons in the PSD kinda thing for more money and you (Port) get zero compo to help bid on Dougie Houser... And Port will really need those draft points to get him.

Just shows how little we all know, I wasn’t being serious and got laughed at. Then it becomes a possibility 1 year later
I'll give you a similar example. It would be like saying Dangerfield would retire at the end of 2025. Then he retires at the end of 2026. Early = wrong.

Unfortunately you needed to say "at some point in the next 2 years Close will play a VFL game" to nail this one.

Wouldn’t say they’re similar. Best your get back into bed and roll out the other side, it’s all abit of fun

Oh I was only poking fun at you for claiming a win where it didn't fit. If I say it will rain today and it doesn't happen until tomorrow, I was wrong.

Sorry if I upset you though, let's move on!

If we are finishing bottom we are not getting butters or any other ready made recruit. So no.
