Perhaps the mods would be kind enough to merge this poll thread with the other rookie pick thread.

So without further adieu.

It's time to have a crack at picking the rookie picks.

In our last poll for the National Draft three main players selected by the hawthorn board we’re Grigg, Kerridge and Frost with a number of other perhaps more shrewd members choosing ‘other’.

Anyway in the National Draft we passed on Grigg twice who eventually went at 41 whilst Kerridge never made our pick and consequently went at 27 with both these players ending up at the Adelaide Crows.

Perhaps the crows recruiting staff spend a lot of time on the hawks board?

Frost who was highly rated but still raw failed to get drafted at all.

So here we go make your selections!

Shortlist:

Brody Mihocek
Sam Frost
Andrew Bosely
Waylen Manson
Justin Clark
Simon Tunbridge
Julian Dobosz
Myles Bolger
Jai Sheehan
Sam Gordon
Michael Bussey
Xavier Richards

I'm really keen on Mirra but i wouldn't be surprised if he's gone before our 1st pick which is why i selected 'other'.
It seems we're going to re-rookie Johnson but not with our 1st pick. Maybe might be drafted with that last rookie February pick clubs can have similar to this year (2011).

:thumbsu: Carl Peterson if his mind is right

All the other i don't rate or don't know. Most I don't know. :o

Frost. Tall, quick, good disposal...bit of a freak...would love him

2 AFL ready players
2 Development players

Personally I would like to see two ready made players capable of playing ASAP if a long term injury occurred as we seem to have picked up players in the National Draft who will take a couple of years to really have an impact.

Perhaps Lee Spurr type and another player capable of holding down a couple of different position. I was told Spurr could play multiple roles which is helpful and does assist in some flexibility for the team in general. Still only young (24 I think) and has a mature body.

Like everyone I like the look of Mirra really has shown that he has the potential to be a really good player. Problem might be that a lot other people have noticed him as well.

Sandilands for mine is enticing. Could be something special if his brother is anything to go on. Only 7cm shorter then 'big sandi and is still only 17. Be nice to pull a Selwood getting the younger better brother Sandi style.

Frost is an interesting one massive raps, big potential, real athlete, good size nice hands but kicking is a bit awkward. Could be a hit and miss but gee a lot to like about the kid.

Also Nelson is a huge talent IMO I think he will be one of the first gone TBH. If he was still around you would be hard pressed not to draft him.

1. Mirra
2. Spurr
3. Frost
4. Sandi/ Johnson if sandi already gone.

We won't be looking at Spurr.

You would have to think Frost and Sandilands would both be gone before Hawks have a pick. Both have a huge scope for improvement. Sandilands because he is as sky scrapper already and is still growing and Frost because only in a short few years of playing footy has become what he is now.

We have a decent main list now so some project players imo would be the go. See if we can find the next Bruuuuuuest.

No Spurr. hmmm

I think it fairly obvious that we will draft a ruckman with Paul Johnson the hot favourite. Bolger and Sandi have also been mentioned with a lot of pomp.

Perhaps were in the market for another defender.

Bosely was touted as going in the top 40 yet didn't get drafted. We have also been linked with Clark who was expected to be drafted yet failed to get picked up. Frost as has been mentioned is an interesting prospect.

Horsely is another that was suppose to go early. Well put together mature age midfielder. Finished high in the sandover medal. Not sure if he's inside or outside mid but perhaps a good insurance policy.

Shane Nelson for me is still the pick of the litter. A massive talent. Pretty light frame but aced the Buckley kicking test and showed some really good speed. Averaged 20+ possies + 71% efficiency.

I still like the look of Waldhuter has a bit of mongrel in him and tackles like madman. Aggressive at the ball type of player, really gives a contest. Perhaps a worthy replacement for Campbell Brown.

Dubosz kicked a couple of bags of seven which raised his stock leading into the draft. He was also expected to be draft. Didn’t really impress that much but had very little pre-season and could still be a very good player.

If we want speed it might be Dalgliesh. Super fast with a decent kick might be an option form north ballarat. He’s my smokey carries the ball like a champion and looks a bit like Young, good luck catching him if he gets the ball and has a couple of steps on you he finished 3rd in the stallwell gift.

I think we need a small forward that is cabable of playing senior football next year. We don't really have many options after Bruest and Rioli.

2 others plus Johnson and Mirra in whatever order.
Sounds like me. :p Don't know any of the kids but know Mirra and have seen him and he's worthy of drafting. Has been improving out of sight over the last 18 months and is still coming along nicely. :thumbsu:

There is one problem with Mirra: someone else might get the jump on us. I'd be most happy if we secured him with our first pick. Conversely, I don't think PJ will be fielding much interest, so our last active pick sounds good to me. Would be happy to fill out the middle picks with purely speculative prospects.

Nelson
Frost
Bolger
Turner

Spot on, pretty much what I would have picked.
Can't go past Nelson as first choice, especially after reading that article, an inside & outside midfielder, quick and tough.
Frost: 194 cm, big hands, can mark one handed, has some talent and strength, big leap- reminds you of croad.
Bolger- great ruckman, those clips showed how good he is and at 95 kg he is more ready than our reserves.
Turner- small forward, how can you go past that, we really need a quick small forward.
