I give you that much..great sporting teams.

HA

:(

1 point.

Hardly. But if it makes you feel superior to those pesky northerners then by all means knock yourself out.

Everything I forecast about the bid was spot on the money.

In the meantime, there were people like you who thought Australia was actually a chance of winning the bid.

Trying to re-write history are we?

Not me, i knew it wouldn't stand a chance in bogan australia.

While the rest of the world has culture and is accepting of a massive month of celebration, this one little corner in the arse end of the world with hardly any culture decided to mount a huge backlash against the world cup. I told my relos overseas and they couldnt believe it.

I knew it was doomed and didnt even bother with it.

I just read your stupidity and couldnt believe how against it you were because a) the threat it posed to the AFL season and AFL in general.

But hey you keep the anti soccer vitrol up, while the rest of the world enjoys and celebrates a festival of football you can stay home in downtown footscray watching old VHS tapes of Simon Beasley kicking his 100 or your umm...oh thats right you don't have any premiership dvds. Sucks to be you.

Back on the subject of Roy Masters - anyone been watching John Clarke's Sporting Nation on ABC sunday nights?

Roy was one of those interviewed for the program. Nearly all of his quotes in last week's show were some kind of comparison between AFL and NRL. Even talking about racism in sport he was bagging the AFL and promoting league. Everyone else interviewd was just talking about their own sport and their experience growing up and playing, not mentioning or comparing to other sports. He really comes across as having a massive chip on his shoulder.

As opposed to AFL fans who start up threads like this or just need to bitch about NRL?

Nooooo thats right you guys never do anything wrong.

Roy writes an anti afl article, brings up some good points - afl fans get extremely offended, call him ever name under the sun and then try and tell everyone they couldnt careless about what Roy says.

****en incredible the lot of you.

1. I simply offered an analysis of the chances of Australia winning the bid, and along the way, I supported the AFL's right to look after it's own interests (shock, horror).

2. I corrected people's lack of understanding on the AFL's inalienable rights to the MCG and Etihad. I also tried to advise people that the AFL would be due a massive compensation package if it were to give up the MCG for 10 weeks - many soccer fans lacked that basic understanding.

3. As for culture, I don't know about you, but I rather like Australian culture, and Australian Football is an important element of Australian history and culture.

4. At the end of the day, the FFA were way out of their depth, were incapable of putting together a half decent bid, and it was not the AFL's responsibility to pull them out of the mire. But a lot of soccer fans seemed to have this odd belief that it was the AFL's responsibility to organise the world cup bid on behalf of the FFA - very odd indeed.

As Admiral Byng says - why the need for Roy to start comparing the NRL and AFL.

And if anyone here thinks the AFL has a bad record on racism - then they don't know too much about sport around the world!!

Maybe at the start you were but then for a couple of months all you did was discredit anything futbol related, celebrated when we didnt get the WC and you still try and hang shit on the world game at every op.

Your ****en blog, if it's not ranting about futbol, it's ranting about the NRL.

I mean why do you expend so much ****en effort, thats what us non vics want to know. Why do victorians expend so much energy hating?

Agree totally, the idea that a multi million dollar business (the AFL), its sponsors, all those it employs would toss it all on the scrap heap for a mob (the FFA) that lacked the business cred to even negotiate a heads of agreement over the use of grounds remains beyond comprehension.
One day the truth on the for the World Cup will come out & there will be back peddling big time.

FFA was already on the back foot. While other countries know how to get together and organise a world event Australians were too ****en busy infighting amongst states and tooo concerned over things that will still be here after the event, too busy digging up dirt and being vindictive towards futbol to realise what a perfect opportunity this would have been to showcase both Australia other than the clichés shown to OS tourists and to showcase our diverse culture.

But nooooo bogan australia said "**** off we're full" to fifa.

Onya cobbers, you did us proud aye!

It was a matter for the FFA and the Commonwealth and State Governments to sort out.

I doubt the average Australian, bogan or otherwise, had much to do with it at all.

It's at this point that the understanding of the average soccer fan is severely lacking.

It may or may not have been a great opportunity - but either way, it had nothing to do with the AFL, and/or with AFL fans.

Oh no not at all.

The Herald Sun didn't influence a lot of knuckle draggers about the evils of "sokkah" nor did they ever put a picture of one of their legends on the front page squashing a round ball. No no at all.

It had everything to do with the AFL. AFL fans were the main ones kicking and shouting and refusing anything to do with the World Cup.

All I can say is that the FFA's bid book was even worse than we first thought if a photo of barass on the front page of the HS was going to affect FIFA.

As for AFL fans - they weren't involved in any aspect of the bidding process, so how could they have had an effect?

The FFA was way out of its depth, Lowy took on more than he could chew, and the various levels of Government didn't come to the party money wise (thankfully).

Had nothing to do with the AFL. Their focus, rightly, was worrying about its own game.

My mistake. Everyone on here seems to just want to talk about rugby league, so I thought I'd join in.

What Stewies and the rest of his moron mates fail to understand is that Sydney media actually give the AFL more than their fair share of coverage, considering the actual lack of support for the code. Since moving down south, its pretty clear that the Melbourne media have been brain washed into not giving the NRL any coverage at despite the Storm being perennial premiership contenders (despite their cheating ways).

Not true Mate! News Ltd/HeraldSun still own the Strom 100% and the Storm as they are News limited's baby get more than they are entitled to in the HUN!
The Age gets it right with the coverage RL deserves in Melbourne.

They are still only getting 13,000 ave this season even thought they are a top team.Dont tell me there are only 13,000 expat NSW/QLD people living in Melbourne and what about the NZers and Islanders that love the bumsniffers game? where are they?

You would think with all the publicity surrounding the SOO including live TV that people would be lining up to see this fabulous game but I bet their next home game gets their ave crowd.!

Any AFL team in Melbourne getting an average like that would be heading for the scrapheap.

Again the bid was doomed from the start once the AFL media started its crusade against it.

You can throw figures around here and there and there have been events in this country which have seen tax payers money wasted, perfect example the ****en F1 in Melbourne which has been losing money for years BUT because it doesnt directly effect the AFL at all most melbourne people couldn't be ****ed mounting a strong campaign to get it removed nor does the herald sun make sure to print a negative article about it as they did with the wc bid.

FFS how do you feel that your tax money goes to one individual, Bernie Ecclestone, each year? Why arnt you ranting about it on your blog?

Because it poses no threat to your beloved AFL, thats why..but your taxes are going into some rich pricks pocket instead.

Plus the AFL could have used the four weeks to ****en showcase the game to the world.

grrr you idiots in melbourne are just ****ed up in the head.

"Hey Victorians gimme your tax money sicne you dont want it LOLZ!!"

Like AFL in Sydney. Replace AFL in your rubbish rant with NRL and replace Melbourne with Sydney and its exactly the same.

And on your last point there are teams like that, melbourne, north, the doggies. Sure they might say they have 30k members and include pet birds, goldfish and the like as members the reality is the swans when they play these tema sin melbourne - outnumber them.

These teams are only propped up by the AFL because they, the afl fear massive backlash ala fitzroy if they kill these teams which dont deserve to be still i the AFL.

Personally, I don't think so much taxpayer money should go towards Formula 1.

We have the Australian Open as an annual event. Add the Boxing Day test, and occasional Wallabies and Socceroo games, and that's plenty of international sport.

But you continue to ignore the key point: it was up to the FFA and Commonwealth Government to put the bid together - had nothing to do with the AFL.

Then why dont you mount a campaign against it like you did with the WC bid? After all its the same issue you have with the FFA bid. Money being wasted on an event that nobidy wants!

But no again it's no threat to your beloved AFL and you dont hate it enough as you hate "sokkah"!

Sure they might say they have 30k members and include pet birds, goldfish and the like as members....

You can't honestly believe that.

If there is one sporting competition in Australia that doesn't have to make up attendance and membership numbers, it's the AFL.

I don't hate soccer. I'm a former player, coach and A-League member.

Formula 1 did not make any demands on the AFL in the way that soccer tried to make demands on the AFL.

My point has been a consistent one: it was up to the FFA to organise the bid. If they weren't able to organise it on their own, then they shouldn't have even tried it on.
