Not necessarily.

In this whole situation, people seem to forget Tomlinson. While often hidden in Cameron's shadows, the kid is an absolute gun and a perfect third tall.

In addition, Patton and Boyd are quite similar players and I'm not entirely sure that you can play both of them in the same team.

Patton has had injury setbacks and will likely start next year behind Boyd, Tomlinson and Cameron, and thus they risk him lowering further in value. If GWS do indeed intend to take Boyd (which they'd be crazy not to), trading Patton is not as bad an idea as people make it out to be.
Fair enough, I haven't watched enough of the Giants to know much about Tomlinson.

Just going off most of their supporters on the giants board, they seem pretty keen to hang onto Patton and not keen on the idea of trading for pick 4.

Yeah, I don't imagine the supporters would be keen on it either. I would wager that they'll forget about it when they see Boyd dominating with Cameron and Tomlinson in a couple of years.

Exactly. I look at this purely from a player perspective. GWS is 5 minutes old, no history no nothing. There would be no loyalty there at all. Yeah he has mates there, big deal, he watched them play footy while he sat on the sidelines. And if GWS trading goes to their want, then he has another year to watch them play firsts as he plays seconds, so long as no body goes down with an injury. If i was Patton, I'd get out of there quick smart, and go to a club that will appreciate me, pay me more and have a history.

I was a lauded draftee, picked number one, showed something before going down with injury, so what does my 5 minute old club do? Not wait for me to come good, like a club with faith in my abilities would, but rather spend insane amounts of money on a franklin, while jumping an the next me to come along (Boyd). Thanks, but no thanks, it is clear i am the 3rd wheel here, and thus shall move on.

But that's me.

I suspect GWS once they decided they could not get what they want for pick 1 , they will now draft Boyd and be prepared to cash Patton ---- just makes sense to me.

Forget about the psd. Players taken in the psd can't train with their new club until nearly Christmas and we all know what happens to guys with poor pre-seasons. We will be wanting him at training day 1
Was correct up to last year, but wasn't this rule changed during the year though? The AFL made a number of changes, including bringing the rookie & PSD draft forward

Well we havent got the premierships to back it up.. but.. we are a proud club who have a long history. A traditional club..
I dunno. Ten premierships isn't exactly shabby. The problem is none of them are in the last 50 years.

We just had this debate elsewhere. VFA was a top tier competition until 1925 when Footscray, Hawthorn and North left for the VFL. Onlyafter that was it second tier. In 1924 as VFA premiers we played Essendon (VFL premiers) for the title of the best club in Victoria. We walloped them.

You might have noticed some other clubs fans on BF touting their VFA flags as legit. That includes fans from some of the "establishment" clubs.

I see no reason at all why we should accept the revisionist football history of the likes of Essendon, Carlton and Collingwood.

Yeah i see your point.. I guess im just looking at it from that the club only claim we have one the one VFL/AFL premiership. If they tout theirs as legit then we can just do the same back to them when involved in those discussions.
